"Oh, God, please keep her. Protect her and the child in her womb." Jeremiah quietly prayed beside the bed of the sleeping Lisa.
They are currently at the only hospital in the community. Ms. Manoban has been asleep for about an hour so Jeremiah was just patiently waiting for her to wake up. The doctor had already done some tests but Jeremiah decided to wait on Lisa to receive whatever news together. It was the woman's business after all.
"Jeremiah?" As his head was down as he prayed, Jeremiah did not notice that the woman was already awake.
"I'm here." The young man got up from his seat to place a kiss on the teacher's head. "Are you okay? Do you feel discomfort anywhere?"
"No I'm fine. Don't worry about me." Lisa answered immediately. "Tell me about the baby. Is my baby okay?" She worriedly asked with some tears in her eyes.
"I'll call the doctor now. We'll find out together."
"Okay." Jeremiah hurriedly left the room.
"How are you feeling Lisa?" The doctor asked when she arrived.
"I'm doing good Dr. Morris." This woman has been Lisa's doctor ever since she moved to Non Pariel.
"I'm sure you want to know about the baby so I'm not going to delay." The patient chuckled even though she was a bit nervous. Jeremiah hurried over to hold her hand, which Lisa was grateful for. "No need to worry. There is nothing wrong with your baby. He or she is rather healthy actually. It's clear it's mother is taking good care of it." Dr. Morris said those last few words to give her some extra comfort.
"That's good." Lisa exclaimed happily. "Is there anything else?"
"Lisa, to continue keeping your baby healthy, you need to stay away from anything that can cause you stress. Mother's fainting during pregnancy can cause complications for the baby. You need to be careful."
"My baby's going to be okay though. Right?" A tear escaped her eye.
"Yes. Next week is your first ultrasound. I hope I won't be seeing you again before that."
"You wont."
........."Jeremiah?" Lisa called after the two returned to her house. They currently sat on the couch in each other's embrace. The other hummed. "What time do you have to be home?" Jeremiah hesitated to talk.
"Uhm. I'm normally home by six but it's okay. I could stay with you for a bit."
"Are you sure? Cause it's already 6:30PM." Lisa asked again, looking at the clock on the wall. Jeremiah's thoughts went to his mother.
'Would she even be home today? Probably not.'
"It's okay, Lili." Jeremiah reassured the woman. "Why?" Lisa said nothing. Jeremiah pulled out from the hug to look at the teacher's face. "What is it, Lili?" He caressed Lisa's cheek.
"I was just wondering if-" She paused and looked down at her fiddling fingers. "-if you wanted to stay over." Her voice was barely above a whisper but Jeremiah heard it. "You don't have to, but I just don't want to be alone tonight."
"I'd love to."
"Really?!" Lisa's face lit up. The student nodded. "But what about your parents? Would they mind?" Her face fell, along with Jeremiah's.
"It's okay. They won't be there anyway."
"Oh." Seeing Jeremiah's dejected face the teacher didn't push. "Okay, well, I'm gonna get something you could wear to sleep, okay?" He nodded. Lisa left to her mission.
Jeremiah's smile reappeared after he realized that he is really going to stay at the teacher's home. This clearly meant they were getting closer. Even though he 'might' be seeing his mother after a week, he knew that the teacher needed him right now.
