I can't get Maya off my mind. I've thought about her all day at work, and I really need to see if she's ok. I finish some paper work and then leave work, heading to the restaurant Maya works at.
I walk inside and look around, hoping to see her, but she's no where to be seen. I thought she might be working today. Oh, no. What if her boss fired her?
"Hi." A young girl smiles at me as she picks up a menu. "We're a bit busy at the moment, but a table should be free any time-"
"Sorry, I'm not staying." I shake my head.
"Oh, ok." She looks a little bit confused.
I step aside so she can greet some other customers, and I take one last look around the room. I leave feeling even more worried. I haven't heard from her and I don't know where she is.
It's started to snow... I look up at the white sky as I make my way to my car. I sit inside and stare at the falling snow flakes. Maybe I should try her apartment? Or maybe she's at the lake? I'll try her apartment first. I drive away from the restaurant, trying to remember the way to the block of apartments.
After finding the building, I park up and head inside. Thankfully, I remember her apartment number. I knock on the door and wait, hoping to see Maya's face, but my heart sinks when I'm greeted by Ronnie.
She's wearing a black crop top and a short denim skirt. She flicks back her long black hair, and looks me up and down with a little smirk.
"Hey, busted lip man." She brings a cigarette to her mouth and sucks in the smoke.
"Hi..." I show a little smile.
She blows out the smoke and lowers her eyebrows.
"What's your name again?" She asks as she leans against the door frame.
"Michael."
"Oooh, yeah. That's it." She smiles.
"Is Maya here?"
"Nope." She shakes her head and sucks in more smoke.
"Oh." I frown. "Is she ok?"
"Uh, yeah? I think so?" She let's out a little laugh and makes a face.
"Where is she?"
"At work." She shrugs. "I think she finished, like, an hour ago, though, so I don't know."
"Oh... ok." I nod slowly. "But, she's ok, though?"
"Has something happened or something?"
"No, it's just, I haven't heard from her."
"Oh..." She makes a face. "Well, do you wanna wait inside for her? I'm sure she'll be back soon."
"That's ok." I shake my head. "Could you just let her know I stopped by?"
