"Hi, how can I help you today, sir?"

"Hi, I'm looking for an engagement ring."

"Lovely. Would you like any help or are you ok browsing?"

"Uhhh..." Wes looks like a deer in headlights which makes me laugh. He has no idea.

"I think he needs some help." I chime in.

"That's no problem at all." The lady smiles. "Do you have anything specific in mind?"

"Uh, well, a ring..." Wes pulls a face.

I roll my eyes and the lady laughs.

"I meant anything specific, as in the type of ring. We have different material types, like, silver and gold, different stones, stone shapes, stone colours, things like that."

Wes nods his head slowly and rubs his chin, still very unsure of what he's looking for.

"Right... uh... I don't do this often. This is my first time, so I'm not really sure."

I give him a look and the lady laughs softly.

"That's ok. There are so many different rings, so I understand it can be a little daunting, but don't worry, I'm here to help you find the perfect one. Do you have an idea of what your partner likes?"

"She doesn't like stuff that's too blingy."

Great, now we're getting some where.

"Ok, if you follow me this way, I'll take you over to the engagement rings and show you some that you might like."

"Thanks. If you could show me some that are on sale too, that would be even better." Wes grins.

I laugh softly and shake my head, following Wes and the sales lady. She tries her best to help, but Wesley is too indecisive. After about 20 minutes she leaves Wesley to browse alone and goes to help another customer.

"I can't decide." Wes sighs. "And what if she doesn't like it?"

"Amy loves you, I doubt she'll even care what it looks like."

"Some of these are hella expensive too." He widens his eyes. "I ain't made of money."

"This should be an exciting time for you. You shouldn't be worried about money."

"I'm not! I'm just sayin..."

I give him a look and point to one behind the glass.

"That's nice. What about that one?"

He stares at it for a few seconds and makes a face.

"Mmmm, nah, looks like something my granny would wear."

"Really?" I chuckle. "We're gonna be here all day at this rate. Even the sales lady has had enough of you."

"Don't rush me, Mike! This is a serious decision and I want it to be perfect. Are you telling me, that if it was you buying a ring for Maya, you'd come in here and pick the first ring you see? No. You wouldn't. You'd be an indecisive ass too."

"Ok." I widen my eyes and laugh. "You've made your point... but I'm picking Maya up in a couple of hours, so-"

"Shut up." He pushes my arm playfully and rolls his eyes. "I'll take as long as I like, thank you."

I smile and shake my head, putting my attention back on to the rings. One catches my eye and I immediately think of Maya. It's a beautiful, unique, non-traditional ring, and is definitely something I would consider buying her because it's her kind of style. It's 18 carot white gold, with a Ruby gemstone in the centre and on either side are diamonds, all set with quirky beaded detail. It's unusual because the gemstones are positioned to run along the finger.
