Thankfully it's late and there aren't many cars on the road because I drove like a maniac to get to Maya. I get out of my car and see a car door open down the street. Maya steps out to make herself known and I rush over to her.

"I'm sorry." She cries.

"Hey, what are you sorry for?" I frown.

"For calling you at this time and making you come all the way down here."

"No, you have nothing to be sorry for."

"I didn't know what else to do and you're the only person I wanted to see."

I gently place my hands on the sides of her head and look into her frightened, sad eyes. I examine her face and frown at the blood under her nose and on her lip. Toby is a fucking scumbag for laying his hands on her. She's only just been discharged from hospital after over dosing on drugs, and now he's beat her up and forced her out of her own home. Frustration and anger over takes me, forcing me to take a deep breath as I clench my teeth.

"Which house is yours?"

She lowers her eyebrows and shakes her head, looking scared.

"It doesn't matter. I just want to go-"

"He's not getting away with this Maya. Which house is yours?" I ask again.

"Michael, I didn't want you to come here to get into a fight. Please, can we just go?"

"Fine, I'll bang on every door down this street if I have to."

"Michael." She frowns and grabs my arm to stop me.

"I've had it with men treating you like shit and getting away with it, Maya! I'm not letting it happen anymore! That's your home, now which one is it?!"

She looks a little bit shocked from my sudden outburst and then hesitantly nods over to the end house across the street. I bolt over to it and Maya rushes after me.

"Michael, stop! He has a gun!" She grabs my arm and pulls me back. "I don't want you to get hurt, please." She begs. "He's not worth it."

"But you're worth it." I frown. "And I'm not the one who's gonna get hurt."

"But he's crazy! I don't know what he'd do, especially after seeing you at the door."

"It's alright, I can handle him." I brush back her curls and look into her eyes. "Go back to your car."

"What?! Now you're acting crazy. I'm not leaving you and letting you go in there alone! Didn't you hear me? He has a gun!"

I'm too angry to even care about that right now. At this point I'm like a bull that's seen red, and I want to go for him no matter what weapons he might have.

"That fucking asshole needs a taste of his own medicine! I'm not going to sit back and do nothing like I did with the other dickhead you were with. I should've beat the shit out of Dylan, and I should've beat the shit out of your dad when I had the chance."

I head for her house and start banging on the door, but my anger just boils up even more when he doesn't answer.

"Toby!" I shout.

"Michael." Maya frowns and holds my arm, making me look at her.

She looks so sad and looks at me with pleading eyes.

"Maya, go wait in the car. I don't want you getting hurt anymore."

"I'm not leaving you."

The door suddenly swings open. Toby stands there with a sour face, glaring at me.
