"Michael?"
"Hi, Monique."
She stares at me in confusion, wondering why I'm standing in front of her house. She let's go of the front door and folds her arms.
"What are you doing here?"
"Why do you think?" I make a face. "You tell me you think you're pregnant, and then say no more about the matter. It's about time we have a real conversation because right now I don't know what to think."
She rolls her eyes and looks away from me.
"I thought you'd be with Maya." She mumbles.
"Excuse me?"
"I heard you were with her last night."
I sigh and shake my head.
"I wasn't with her. She happened to be in the same club Wes and I were in, and then she had to be rushed to hospital. It's not what you think."
"Mm, you're a real hero, aren't you? Maya's knight in shining armour. She's a lucky girl."
"Don't be like that. She could've died, Mon." I give her a look.
She looks down and bites her lip before fixing her gaze on me.
"Is she ok?"
"Yeah, she will be."
She nods and takes a deep breath before turning around and letting me walk inside. There's an awkward silence between us while I think of a way to start off this conversation. I don't want to just pull out the pregnancy test and order her to pee on it, even though that's all I came here for.
"How are you feeling?"
She gives me a look and laughs.
"Oh, I'm feeling terrific, thanks for asking."
"I don't mean about us." I frown. "I know you're upset... I meant about the possibility of you being pregnant."
She shrugs and looks down at the floor.
"A shrug isn't an answer. This is serious-"
"I know that!" She raises her voice. "You've left me and now I could be pregnant! How do you think I'm feeling?"
I take a deep breath and run my hand through my hair.
"Have you done a test yet?"
"No..."
"Then what makes you think you're pregnant?"
"My period is late."
I rub my forehead and frown.
"I'm just a bit confused, Mon, because you've told Toby that you are pregnant, but you're telling me a different story. Which is it? Are you, or are you not pregnant?"
"I just know I am, ok?! I can feel it! My body feels different and I have a missed period, that could only mean one thing."
"That's not enough!" I shoot her a look. "You can't just go off your instinct with something like this, and you can't go around lying when you don't know for sure!"
"I knew you'd think I'd be lying." She rolls her eyes and scoffs.
"Having a missed period doesn't always equal a baby. I need to know if you're pregnant, and even more so now we're not together." I reach into my pocket and take out the pregnancy test.
Her eyes widen and her jaw drops before she let's out a laugh.
"You've come here to force me into taking a pregnancy test?!"
