Let me sleep
I am tired of my grief
And I would like you
To love me, to love me, to love me
This is the night when these woods sigh
Come with me
There are people who cannot speak
Without smiling
But they would take me from your hand
Or they would try, they would try
This is the murmur of the land
This is the sound of love's marching band
And how they hold you like a gun
And how I sing you like a song
I heard when I was young
And buried for a night like this
Buried for a night like this
November 19th 2017.
As soon as I saw Maria put baby Alessia in Eve's arms, my mind circled around in imagination knowing that one day we could possibly hold a child of our own. The way Eve knew immediately what to do and how to support parts of her delicate body had be watching her in awe. I brush a piece of hair out of her face as she smiles down at her new baby sister with so much love. I couldn't believe there was a baby in the family now, I mean a brand new life who was only going to get older just like the rest of us.
"Hey bug...I'm your older sister" Eve whispers. "It's nice to meet you" Eve leans down to kiss her sisters head softly only to have the baby squirm while making the cutest noise. I watch my girlfriend glance up to her mother in worry only to be smiled at and reminded that it was completely normal which calms her down. Eve's head turns up to look at me with the biggest smile on her face, I could feel her watching my every move as I glance back down at the little baby in her arms. I think Eve could tell I was becoming desperate to hold her. I hadn't held a baby since my younger cousin who was now four years old. Eve holds Alessia's head and carefully passes her over into my arms that wrap around her cautiously. Once she is settled in my arms, I grin down at her... a small tear escaping from my eye as I do so. She was perfect. Alessia was the most beautiful little baby I had ever seen.
Eve moves up the couch to wrap her arm around my waist and lean her head down on my shoulder which I peck sweetly before giving the baby my full attention. From the darkness of her hair, I could tell she shared the same colour as Maria and Eve. She was very much like both of them in a number of ways, she had Maria's button nose and her sisters eye shape... both of their fuller lips. Genetics was a crazy thing. Eve and I had been feeling broody ever since we first saw a photo of Alessia, of course we won't act on it but the thoughts nice to sit and dream about. The future is untold, Maria and Luke twenty years ago would have not known that in their future they would produce two beautiful girls later on in life. Neither would my parents have known that they were going to have me and my brother...
"Ciao bella principessa" I grin down at her kindly, brushing my finger over her soft cheek carefully. She stirs happily, stretching in my embrace which just so might be the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life.
"Babies look really good on the two of you" We hear Nonna comment which has Eve rolling her eyes with a smile. Of course Nonna was going to find an opportunity to slip that in there.
"Mamma they are still teenagers, don't give them any ideas" Maria warns her. My eyes look up to meet Eve's who feels my gaze and follows my actions.
"I love you" I whisper as her family around us argue over Nonna pushing us to start a life. She cups my jaw with her hand and moves in closer until I can feel her breath on my lip.
"I love you too"
I lean forward to meet her in the middle and kiss her lips gently.
