The quirks we inherit also comes with its own honour and reputation. Family quirks with a long history brings more pressure upon the child.
But when a quirk is given to you by your idol, the number 1 hero, to make you the next pillar? There, it's not just pressure. It's reputation, it's the need to not disappoint. Everything is there.
When Midoriya fainted due to quirk malfunction, you couldn't help but feel bad for him. Especially after the things he told you that morning.
"I hope his quirk control improves, that's for sure," you sighed.
"If that damn nerd doesn't get his shit straight, he'll die one of these days," Bakugo mumbled in agreement.
"Aw Kacchan, you do care," you snickered back.
"No I don't. He's just not allowed to die," he grumbled.
It made you smile seeing him aggressively care about his acquaintance. Mildly adorable even.
Uraraka saved Midoriya from himself and the boy seemed to be sincerely apologising for causing any trouble to the team. Trouble that the team would gladly help him from again.
Now all that needed to happen was the capture of the other team. Everyone was safe and sound.
Nevermind Monoma copied Midoriya's quirk, we're all going to die, you panicked as soon as the blonde touched the greenette.
Thankfully, it didn't work. If you weren't in school you'd practically be thanking whatever demon down there for not giving Monoma that quirk and letting him self implode. Student deaths wouldn't be practical at all, am I right?
Of course, the mistake needed to be worked off in a sense so multiple projectiles were sent in again targeting Uraraka and Midoriya, both of whom were still in the air.
Yanagi, Kodai and Shoda regrouped shortly afterwards but were instantly attacked by Ashido and Mineta causing a short battle to break out between the five.
Meanwhile, Shinso attempted an ambush using his capture weapon on Midoriya and Uraraka, however the former easily deflected the attack.
"Should we stop the match? Before they hurt themselves?" Toshinori asked worriedly.
"No. Let them continue," Aizawa shook his head and continued watching.
Understandable, really, considering the new quirk evolution and all that just happened. If you could even call it that.
All teachers wanted to see what would happen next, and unanimously agreed that if the wire sprouted out without control again the match would be stopped. They didn't want to endanger anyone unnecessarily and the wire seemed to be great at doing so.
Even Bakugo was watching nervously at the match going on.
"Did he tell you?" You whispered, looking over at the blonde sitting next to you.
He sighed and nodded, remembering the short conversation. Neither Midoriya nor All Might had been subtle about it, going as far as stepping away from the groups to talk but thereby only arousing suspicion.
Midoriya himself talked with All Might earlier this morning, in the break room and was informed that a new quirk would emerge though the timing was uncertain.
"Guess there really is no better time than now, huh?" You groaned, chuckling lightly.
"The best time to start something is yesterday," Bakugo countered. "We don't know how much longer we'll live, we'll sacrifice ourselves or find a way out. Knowing Deku, he'll sacrifice himself trying to save someone. It's best to get things done with if your future is as unstable and uncertain as ours."
You looked at the boy, surprised he'd made the analogy.
"You know, he's been on the job 20 years. All Might, that is," you began. "He only ever sacrificed himself."
The boy looked at you, wondering where you were going with your point. Sighing, you continued.
"Not all heroes are like that. Getting everyone out safely and then guiding them to a safe place, not to mention, making sure there aren't any aftershocks, that's also important," you explained, noting every small detail of the battle down. You looked at Bakugo, vermilion eyes staring right into your own. "Choose wisely, would ya?"
Turning around to face the screen, you watched as Monoma attempted to use One for All, only to be pinned down by Uraraka's martial arts skills.
The girl had evidently matured, looking up to Midoriya and his fighting styles while having a crush on him, though being smart enough to not make a move and distract him. Both were too focused on their hero coursework to pay attention to relationships, improving steadily throughout the time span of the school year.
She trusted her instinct more and knew others could handle themselves, only jumping in when absolutely necessary, like she did with Blackwhip's friendly greeting.
"Still can't believe people thought of her as weak," you mumbled, scribbling down notes.
Bakugo's eyes were evidently fixated on you, you could feel it, though you ignored them as you continued to jot down points of improvement.
"She looks up to you, y'know that?" Bakugo asked.
"No," you scoffed, surprised the observant blonde hadn't picked it up. "She looks up to Midoriya. He got the most improvement in quirk control and has a good academic placement, it's understandable."
The boy raised an eyebrow at your response, having expected something more fiery from you.
He walked off, leaving you be for a few minutes, only to drag someone else to sit next to you.
"Kaminari-San?" You asked, raising an eyebrow, watching the boy visibly cringe as you used his last name.
He seemed to want to say something, though shut his mouth and just sat next to you in silence.
Shrugging, you turned back to the match, watching everything with extreme vigilance.
You watched every single move, from how Midoriya reused Blackwhip to how Shinso utilised his Brainwash. From how Uraraka combatted Monoma to how Mineta and Ashido worked together.
Nothing, no matter how big or small, left your eyesight. You noticed every little detail and scribbled down notes for the most minute things, both for their improvement and yours.
But while you focused heavily on the match in front of you, you drowned out all your surroundings, to the point where you didn't snap back to reality until you felt a weight on your right shoulder.
"I'm sorry," Kaminari whispered, tears pricking at his eyes. "I was a dick I know and you don't have to forgive me or get over it but at least talk to me?"
You sighed, smiling softly and ruffled his hair.
"Listen, I trusted you with my life, promise," you began, watching as the light left his eyes. Sighing, you reluctantly continued. "I won't get over it, but I might forgive you soon. But you've gotta remember that you stopped talking to me first. It isn't fair on you to do that, just leave me in the dark, and then beg me to talk to you."
You turned away and continued your observation, face stone cold as you showed no emotion.
The boy next to you however, he was crestfallen. Tears steamed down his face as he let go of you, though he was quick to wipe them away and plaster a smile on his face as he returned to his friends.
Though you never noticed.
