Vermilion eyes, a pair you'd grown so accustomed to seeing and so comfortable around, stared deep into your own eyes, causing a boiling pit of fear to bubble up in your stomach.
He glared, deep in thought, knowing that you were hiding more information than what was shown on the news.
"If you want to know what that conversation was about, here's a small spoiler," you began cautiously. "You aren't getting any information."
"I don't care," he scoffed. "You're going to get yourself killed."
"Why do you care if I live or die, Bakugo-San?" You asked, genuinely curious.
He looked at you, gaze softening enough to reveal the harboured worry he held in his eyes.
"Kaminari's life practically depends on yours," he sighed. "I won't loose two people because one was stupid enough to go and die."
Your eyes widened as he revealed not only his concern, but that of your friend's as well.
"Kaminari depended on me," you corrected. "My life or death won't affect ya'll anyways, so let it happen. It might save some of you."
As soon as you finished speaking, you were met with a slap to the face, startling you out of your nonchalant attitude.
"You're going to sacrifice yourself for something that might not even happen?" He yelled, grabbing you by your collar. "You promised a girl you'd survive, are you really going to die on her?"
"Get off!" You yelled, shoving the boy off you.
He was right, both of you knew that. Yet you were too stubborn to accept that.
You sat down on the ground, bringing your knees up to your chest to keep warm.
The boy did the same, sitting down next to you.
You looked up at him, confused.
"Sacrificing yourself for something that might not even happen is stupid, you know?" He grumbled. "It's something shitty Deku would do."
"If I told you I knew it would make your lives better, would you finally let me go?" You asked, a bitter smile ghosting on your lips.
The boy gave you a blank stare, as if the answer was already obvious.
"Are you really that stupid?" He asked, flicking your forehead. "No, none of us would."
You pursed your lips at that, contemplating if his statement really was true or not.
"Do I need to get Dunce Face out to prove it to you?" He scoffed.
"Don't call him that," you corrected instinctively, not even realising the words slip out.
The blonde raised an eyebrow at your remark, curious as to why you were defending a friend who had insulted you in front of everyone and left you completely. Not to mention, he'd accidentally been the one to let it slip up and cause the news of the scandal spread across school.
While you'd sorted it out and become on ok terms with most of the squad, he still beat himself up for it, not that you knew, of course.
"He cares more than you think, it's pathetic," Bakugo scoffed, pulling you up.
"Why're you pulling me up now jackass?" You protested, kicking your legs. "Let go!"
"Gladly," he grumbled, continuing to drag you inside. "But you'd catch hypothermia if I did."
"At least be kind enough to carry me instead of dragging me," you scolded, clambering onto the boy so he'd be holding you bridal style.
He took one look at you and dropped you, grumbling as he walked off.
"Bakugo-San!" You yelped, scrambling after him.
"Didn't I tell ya to call me Katsuki, Air Head?" He asked, not bothering to stop.
You took the opportunity to jump onto his back and cling on to him like a koala, surprising him greatly.
"Sure sure, stop complaining would ya?" You smirked, resting your chin on his shoulder.
"You're lucky I hate you less than the others," he scoffed.
"Still too scared to admit that we're friends?" You teased, knowing it would probably get you pushed off as he walked to school.
Then, you remembered something more important.
Getting off, you grabbed the boy by his tie, halting him instantly.
"Whatever you heard out there, one word and those'll be the last ones out your mouth. Got it?" You threatened.
"Same goes to this walk pipsqueak," he scoffed, wrangling his tie out of your hands. "We've both got secrets."
The two of you walked back in, readily welcomed by your classmates as you joined the party.
One thing about class A was that you'd been involved in so many incidents that you'd learnt how to enjoy yourselves quickly. Every party you threw, the classmates would party hard, letting loose as if it were the last day of their lives.
You were no different, getting into the spirit quickly as you shoved other concerns to the back of your mind for now.
Needless to say, most of you slept in the common room that night, completely exhausted as the adrenaline died down.
So when you woke up the next morning to see yourself curled up on top of Kaminari on the sofa, it was a pretty shocking way to start the day off.
"Huh?" The blonde woke up, ready to punch someone at your sudden movement.
"Go back to sleep," you shushed him. "It's early. I'll make breakfast and then we can head to school."
He drowsily nodded, pulling you into a short hug before letting you go again.
The breakfast was simple, only a set of pancakes for everyone. You yourself were tired, so you made what was easiest for you.
With a hoard of half asleep teenagers munching at them at the ungodly hour, it was safe to assume they were zombies.
Walking into the classroom, Aizawa instantly let out a disappointed sigh as he saw you.
"Take a seat, we've got matters to discuss," he grumbled, handing out papers for each student as you shuffled to your desks.
You looked down at the familiar set of papers, some of which had your notes and comments scribbled onto them.
"Your work studies will be restarting," he instantly said, dropping the bomb without hesitation.
All those who had taken part in a previous work study looked at each other, fear and worry in their eyes.
It was only reasonable, you'd all seen first hand how bad the effects of society were. Being scared of them wouldn't help you, you knew that much, but what if things were to get worse this time?
You already sported a scar from your last work study, courtesy of being slashed by Yakuza members, not to mention, the mental strain still scarred you even when you were amongst the least affected. This time, you were working on a case while being on general standby for the overall population, you knew it would stress you out.
Though you'd just plaster on a smile and deal with it.
As always.
After all, no one could tell the difference between the fake and real smiles by now, so it didn't matter.
It was a miracle you could tell the difference yourself.
