It wasn't long before Kaminari got ahold of Midoriya, golden eyes gleaming with nothing but pity and guilt for not being to step in earlier.
"We might not have many hobbies in common, Midoriya, but we both wanna save others and I consider you a friend so I'll force you to listen!" He declared. "Let us save you!"
Shoji and Tokoyami each assisted with their quirks as well, creating an insulated womb for Midoriya as Kaminari used his electrification.
"Izuku!" You screamed, instantly returning to reality, though Bakugo held you back from rushing to him. "Let me go!"
"No!" He scoffed. "He needs to come home safe. Both you and him, need to come home safe."
"We're fine, so stop worrying!" Midoriya groaned, breaking free from the womb. "I don't need your help, I have Y/N!"
Suddenly, he flew smack against Todoroki's ice wall, as the half-and-half boy looked down at the other.
"Let us share your burden," he begged.
"It's ok to cry when you're scared, and if you want to go at it like a comic book hero then we won't let you go at it alone," Tsuyu advised, jumping about.
"We aren't alone!" You thrashed. "And we don't need your help!"
"You do, your state is part of AFO'S plan to weaken you, why can't you see that?!" Todoroki groaned in annoyance. "Just let us fight alongside you to protect our school!"
"No," Midoriya scoffed, eyes darkening with rage. "This is a fight between One for All and All for One, you can't keep up. Only the General, who was our top strategist, can keep up because she has inside information on him."
Midoriya broke free of the ice as you broke loose from Bakugo's grip, breaking the tape that tied your arms to your body, both of you dodging attacks left and right before preparing to take off into the sky.
"Your situation is different than from when we rescued Bakugo-" Uraraka began, though neither you nor Midoriya bothered to listen to her and flew off.
Though suddenly, Iida was by your side, midair as he grabbed onto yours and Midoriya's hands.
"What- Let go!" You scoffed in indignance. "I told you to stop trying to get us back!"
"I won't come with you," Midoriya stated blankly, though signs of emotion could be seen as Iida latched onto his hand.
"Never," Iida smiled. "For I am Ingenium, the hero who will grab the hand of a lost child. Because that's what makes a true hero: giving help when it's not been asked for."
You noticed as Midoriya's grip on Iida grew weaker, the boy next you growing faint as he burst into tears.
"Izuku!" You gasped, catching him with a cloud before any damage could be done.
Using the cloud, you gently floated the two of you back to the surface, for otherwise you would have only strained yourself.
"You're lucky I'm on death's door," you glared at them, helping Midoriya up.
"Y/N it's-" Midoriya coughed out as he sat up. "It's ok, I'm fine."
"A year ago I saw the news of a quirkless kid attacking the sludge villain to help save a friend," Kirishima began, causing Midoriya's eyes to widen. "I figured that was you. Being a hero doesn't need anything special, we're just reciprocating your behaviour that you've always shown us."
"I don't want to loose anyone anymore, so please, just come back to U.A so that we'll all be together again and we can have classes together as well!" Mina begged, her usually happy demeanor having vanished the instant she saw Midnight give her one last lifeless smile.
"I want to come back, I really do, but it's too dangerous for everyone there and it'll never go back to how it was before," Midoriya reasoned, shakily standing up.
"Y/N?" Mina asked, on the verge of tears.
"I promised I would stay by his side, and find AFO," you stated, shaking your head.
"Do you remember what I said when I got stabbed?" Bakugo asked, voice much softer than it had ever been. "When you'd nearly accepted your deaths?"
"No," Midoriya admitted sheepishly.
"'It's our fight'," you recited, remembering when the duo had rescued you from Shigaraki. "'So stop trying to win this on your own.'"
He nodded at that, confirming that you were right.
"You can't seriously still be trying to get us to throw more of you into danger, are you all idiots?" You reminded him, even going as far as lifting your shirt up slightly to show the lasting scars an encounter could leave.
"I looked down on both of you, Deku because he was quirkless and to you because you were so self sacrificial," Bakugo admitted, much to your surprise. "But I knew both of you were better than me, not just in power."
Your eyes widened in surprise as he kept going, confused as to what you were supposed to do.
"I got over it for Y/N pretty quickly, but that was only because I learned with you that the bullying would never do good. It wouldn't make me feel superior, it wouldn't make others respect me."
Midoriya quivered next to you, eyes as wide as dinner plates as Bakugo explained his actions.
"But then we got to U.A and I kept losing, to you as well, and I tried to understand your strengths and weaknesses to win. That even allowed me understand Y/N much better, but I could only step in for both of you when it was much too late."
You placed a hand on Midoriya's shoulder as he nearly buckled, keeping him upright.
"Even if you don't change anything, I have to speak the current truth. I'm sorry for everything I've done to you," Bakugo finished. "Izuku."
Both of you returned to reality at that, the awe of Bakugo explaining himself long gone as it was now replaced with fear.
"Your actions were understandable, but you can't just rely on each other," Bakugo explained. "So please, just let us help you overcome this hurdle together."
You let go of Midoriya, weakly covering your mouth as tears pricked at the corners of your eyes. Midoriya, however, weakly collapsed into Bakugo's arms, thanking him for everything as he apologised for his previous actions.
"It's ok, we forgive you," Bakugo reassured, looking up at you one more time.
Vermilion eyes that held more emotion than any of the eyes in your class ever did, they were begging you to return to his side once again.
"Only to protect him," you mumbled.
"What about your own safety?" Bakugo asked, anger flashing in his eyes as he attempted to keep his voice steady.
"Bakugo-kun," you smiled, a happy one that showed no regrets, one so similar to your older brother's. "I'll die soon anyways."
Vermilion eyes that harboured a sea full of emotion and were never afraid to express it.
Except this time, they only showed grief.
A/N: I live for Bakugo angst, anyone else?
QOTD: thoughts on the reunion?
Have a great day/night!
