Chapter 42: The Rogue Duo vs. Class 1-A

"Endeavour, where's Izuku?" You asked hours later.

Your meeting with the heroes was over and it was just you and Endeavour left in the shack, as Jeanist and Hawks had business to attend to.

"I'm sorry Y/N," he sighed in response, continuing to clean the area.

You instantly dropped the box you held out of shock, unable to believe that even the heroes were unable to prevent him from overworking himself.

"I trusted you," you breathed, mist clouding your vision. "You promised to keep him safe."

Endeavour tensed instantly, turning around to meet your furious eyes. He wore casual clothing for once, so all his emotion was only accentuated with every gesture since it wasn't hidden away by the flames.

"He- I promise, he's safe," Endeavour sighed, a frown etched inbetween his eyebrows, his scar wrinkling due to the strained expression.

You glared at him, picking up the boxes and setting them right once more.

"The shack's clean," you announced, gripping the staff that was attached to your waist.

"Y/N you aren't going looking for him," Endeavour ordered, eyes wide at the thought of potentially losing you. Except this time, you wouldn't laugh at him for worrying as you returned, a smirk playing at your lips as you walked with more confidence than ever.

If he lost you now, he would never be able to get you back. It would be his fault as the number one hero, for letting a teen of U.A die, and under his watch nonetheless.

"He needs a sane voice, he won't listen to anyone and he's only pushing himself further to the brink," you argued. "He'll only die at this rate! You really think I'd forgive myself if I allowed that to happen?"

Endeavour grit his teeth as you stood by the door, fear evident in his eyes as he looked down upon you.

"We cannot afford two deaths," he choked out.

"I don't mind dying if it gives Midoriya time to run," you stated, your voice steady, not even a single hint of emotion shown in your voice.

Endeavour hung his head in slight shame, passing you something from his costume.

"Your spare visor," he mumbled. "It was recently salvaged by Hawks."

He handed you the remnants of your old costume, the craftsmanship of Mei's fabulous work evident in every glitch of the visor.

"Thank you," you smiled, hoping you could see her one day once again. "I'll come back home."

You were quick to jump onto a cloud you created and made your way to where Midoriya's tracker was last seen.

Though what you'd seen would haunt you for days.

The greenette, who'd fought many villains, was reduced to his knees unable to stand as he was surrounded by villains.

"No," you gasped as you saw the scene.

You instantly charged up your left hand, index finger pointed straight at the ringleader who dared to disgrace the successor in front of his mentor's statue of honour.

"Don't do it, Y/N-chan!" Izuku called weakly, causing you to release your hand once more. However, you were met with a second surprise.

"AP Shot!" You heard a familiar voice yell, putting an end to the citizens being puppeteered. "Guys, I found him. And we have an extra ticket as well."

Your eyes widened as you flew down to help Midoriya up, ushering the citizens away before they got more hurt.

"Stay away, Bakugo," you choked out shakily, Midoriya's arm draped around your shoulders as you attempted to support his weight. "You don't need to get hurt."

"Says the bitch who faked her own death," he laughed in response, as more of your classmates joined, helping to fight the Dictator. "And Deku didn't even tell us about you surviving!"

"I didn't want to run away, if that's what you're hinting at," you scoffed. "It was merely a strategic benefit."

"So you chose the happiness of others over yourself, again, and you failed to even execute that properly?" Bakugo snarled. "When will you learn Y/N, that no one will provide for your happiness other than you yourself?"

"I...." you faltered, nearly collapsing hadn't Midoriya held on to you as well.

"Don't talk to her like that," he stated simply. "And get out of our way."

"You can't say shit, All Might wannabe!" Bakugo retorted, handcuffing the villain and putting him to the side.

"If you want us to leave, you'll have to fight us," Iida demanded.

"You forget that Izuku has multiple quirks and I'm more powerful than all of you," you glared, putting on the visor Endeavour returned to you. "Especially, with my tech."

"But we will stay strong, we won't let you get away again!" Uraraka argued.

"You can't possibly think this is ok!" Bakugo yelled, annoyed at your thick headedness.

"Izuku needs rest, yes, but we will find AFO even if it's the last thing I do," you sighed, quirk on the ready. "I'm sorry it came down to this."

Midoriya was quick to use smokescreen to escape, giving you enough material to create thick storm clouds with and cause a block for Bakugo.

"So just because you're both on the news you think you're big shots and we're NPCs?" He taunted, aiming blasts at both of you.

"I never said I didn't respect you," you scoffed, removing the gas from the explosion to turn them into clouds.

Suddenly birds nipped at your ears, the trademark of none other than Koda as he begged for the two of you to return. Sero was no better, taping your arms together as he clung onto Midoriya's Blackwhip. Jirou then used a heartbeat wall to trap you in sound, the look she sent you being one of apology and guilt.

"Please, just come back Y/N, for Mei at the very least!" She begged, as you remembered the fantasy you had at the brink of death.

"If... if it isn't possible in this reality, perhaps in another?" You asked quietly, as Tokoyami, Sato and Ojiro fought Midoriya, voicing your thoughts from when you had nearly taken your last breath.

"We will make it possible in all lifetimes," Yaoyorozu declared, as you suddenly heard Midoriya gasp due to being restricted by her weapon. "All we need is your trust."

"Stop wasting your efforts on me," Midoriya yelled. "It will never work!"

"But Izuku," you asked, voice sickly sweet as if you'd been entranced. "Doesn't the ideal life sound beautiful? We could live without a care in the world!"

That's when he realised that it was too late.

He'd already lost you.
