Spring break was nearing its end as the third work study of the year began.
As per plan, all the students ended up in Endeavour's office at the crack of dawn, where they were received by you and Burnin'.
"Y/N-chan?" Midoriya asked. "Why aren't you interning with us?"
You sighed, well aware that the question would've surfaced at some point.
"Because I'm in charge of this operation, you address me as Cloud Nine," you informed him, before turning to everyone else. "Alright listen up, we've got a major obstacle ahead of us and I need your attention!"
The murmuring children quickly quietened down to listen to you. They were all excited but nervous as they'd been admitted into the number one hero's office, so they were all eager to prove themselves.
"Thank you," you smiled, beginning your lecture. "For those that don't know me, I'm Cloud Nine, taking over for Endeavour for the time being. There's a threat aimed towards the larger cities in Japan, especially around this area, so we'll be sending you in groups to evacuate and eliminate any villains. You have permission to use your quirk. Any questions?"
With that, you faced the crowd, awaiting them to ask something. A redhead caught your eye, as he sat in the back of the room and was jumping to make sure you saw him.
"Red riot?" You called, gesturing him to ask his questions.
"What's the threat? We've been attacked by the League and sending U.A in isn't smart, right?" He asked.
"The League is the main threat, however we're sending in all the troops we have," you apologised, lips pursed.
"Cloud Nine lets move on, we need to advance," Burnin' reminded you.
"Right," you nodded, clicking at the big screen display to change the slides. "Find your name on here, this will be your assigned troop. You will report to the aforementioned lieutenant as well as me, your commander."
With that, the whispers started again, but this time louder and more scared.
"Cloud Nine, are we fighting a war?" Kaminari asked you, voice cracking with fear.
'Mei, there's something I need to tell you,' you began, watching as she tinkered about.
'As long as you aren't breaking up with me or cheating, I think it's fine right?' She smiled, tossing you an oatmeal bar with strawberry and chocolate chip pieces, before grabbing one herself. 'What's up?'
You sighed as you opened the packaging before realising the content. Her favourite food, one that you'd stuffed down her throat when she didn't eat and focused her energy too much on other things.
She had noticed. She was subtly telling you to take care of yourself.
'I might die very soon,' you stammered, looking down. 'We gotta fight a war and I'm leading our strategy, so I might be a main target.'
'You're starting a war?' She asked, tearing up.
'No, I'm protecting our country against the villains that attacked my class one too many times,' you spat out, venom evident in your voice as you remembered the league.
'Please survive,' she whispered, wrapping her arms around you.
"We fight to protect and defend, not to attack," you instructed, remembering the words you'd told Mei, watching Kaminari's expression fall as you confirmed his statement. "Remember we've got a family to return to, they do as well. You are not allowed to kill unless it's your last resort."
You checked the time, nodding over to Burnin'. She passed around coms while you radioed Endeavour one last time before you moved out.
'Remember Cloud Nine, we cannot have a repeat of Kamino Ward,' Endeavour instructed before giving the ok to march up to the frontlines.
Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the streets as the heroes stood on top of the mountain that overlooked Deika city, waiting for their commander to give the signal.
"You're a brave kid, Cloud Nine," Midnight smiled, placing her hand on your shoulder. "I'm glad I could see your plan unfurl into something great."
You smiled at her, unfurling the glider wings newly attached to your back. One that Mei had built once she found out about the war so that you minimised quirk usage.
With one swift motion of your staff, you sent a large gust of wind spread across a large area, so that any troops would be eradicated.
Then the chaos ensued.
Everyone was shouting to each other, trying to keep up with their lieutenant.
It was heartbreaking to think that everyone you knew would be forever changed after this one event.
"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you more," you whispered, flying off in the direction that Fat Gum's troop went in.
Kaminari, Tokoyami, Midnight and so many of your other friends had been sent in the direction because they were long range fighters.
They could keep the villains at bay for just a bit more time, something you desperately needed.
"Any news?" You asked, landing where Midnight, Kaminari and Tokoyami were running.
"I can't do this, I'm too nervous!" Denki exclaimed at that.
"I wouldn't have placed you on the front line if I didn't have full faith in you," you reminded. "I wouldn't have sent my best friend to certain death."
Midnight still had her head in the clouds, eyebrows scrunched as she thought about something.
"Think about the person who means the most to you," Midnight advised. "And try to survive for them."
Kaminari turned around for a split second, and through all the mess, you finally traced his glance back to Jirou.
He'd liked her all along, which is why he'd gotten even more sensitive back in October.
Kaminari Denki was someone who hid his feelings behind a bright smile and a bubbly personality, but when he did let them show, he never forgot them.
You flinched as you heard electricity crackle from afar, your quirk picking it up faster than your senses could.
"Make sure you live a good life," you whispered, squeezing Kaminari's hand before rushing off into the thick of it.
"Y/N?" You heard him call, confused as you ran off.
You sent him one last smile before preparing to absorb all the electricity from the villain opposite you.
But the impact never came.
