Chapter 67: Heart or Mind?

Iwaizumi stood a the entrance of the door watching Isuzu hugging Oikawa. The sight made his heart feel a certain way he didn't want it to but he couldn't control his heart as much his mind convinced him otherwise.

'The heart and mind can never be on the same page ever I guess...'

Iwaizumi told himself. Sighing he walked towards the hospital bed. Coming in to sight the nurse bowed and greeted him catching Oikawa and Isuzu's attention.

"Daddy!" Isuzu said in an excited tone. "Look what uncle Oikawa got me!!" Iwaizumi looked at the pink fabric in Isuzu hands.

It was a light pink kimono with a darker pinkish red floral pattern with fern green leaves and a belt.

"It's so pretty!" Isuzu said looking down at the kimono. "Can I please wear it to the 'Omiya' summer festival?" Isuzu asked.

"Sure," Iwaizumi smiled at her. "You can and-d you will.." Iwaizumi voice cracked in between and he cleared his throat.

"Anyways," Iwaizumi said putting his hands in his doctors coat pockets.

"Zuzu!" Suzuki came into the room with a stuffed bear and two disposable cups in the other hand.

"Mom...you're still here." Isuzu said the other part in a lower tone but loud enough for Oikawa to hear.

"I'm so happy you're better now." Suzuki said as she kept the disposable cups on the table on the side and walked over to the bed with the big pink teddy bear.

"Better?" Isuzu scoffed.

This got Iwaizumi and Oikawa's eyes turn to Isuzu.

"Better in what sense, huh?" Isuzu asked looking straight at Suzuki. "Please tell me how I look better??"

"Darling-" Suzuki was cut off by Isuzu sighing loudly.

"Why don't you leave already?" Isuzu asked rolling her eyes eyes.

"Zuzu!" Suzuki said in a stern voice.

"What? It's not hard." Isuzu continued.

"Hajime?" Suzuki said turning to face Iwaizumi now. "Are you going to let her talk like that?"

"You've done it once you can do it again." Isuzu said making Suzuki snap her head back at Isuzu. "Isn't that right, daddy?"

Suzuki then turned her heard towards Iwaizumi waiting for him to say something. Iwaizumi opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out and he just gulped and walked out the room leaving his ex-wife and ex-boyfriend with his daughter.

On his way out the room he heard Suzuki call after him making Iwaizumi stop half way out the door.

"Here," she handed Iwaizumi a disposable cup. "Brought you some coffee." She smiled at Iwaizumi.

"Thanks..." Iwaizumi replied before he exited the room. After taking a few steps out the door he threw the cup in a bin and headed to his office he'd had a lot of work to get done.

It was almost 7pm by the time he got done with his patients of the day. He had about and hour before his night shift started. So Iwaizumi headed up to floor one to go check on his daughter.

Reaching room 14 Iwaizumi entered the room to see Isuzu and Oikawa chatting as Suzuki sat on the sofa near the hospital bed and was on her phone typing.

"Daddy!" Isuzu exclaimed happily. "Is your shift done?" Isuzu asked Iwaizumi.

"For the time being yes." Iwaizumi have her a weak smile.

Iwaizumi was beyond tired and no mater how much he wanted to get some rest he couldn't. He had to over eat over time and take extra shifts to stay with Isuzu in the hospital but mostly it was because he needed the pay. The bills weren't cheap but Iwaizumi didn't care if he'd work himself to death just to give Isuzu the help she needed.

"Oho you've taken the night shift too?" Isuzu asked in a sad tone.

"Sorry Zuzu," Iwaizumi apologize walking up to her on the hospital bed and crouched down. "But I'll keep coming in to check on you don't worry." Iwaizumi ruffled her hair.

"Don't worry daddy uncle Oikawa is here." Isuzu smiled.

When Iwaizumi removed his hand he saw the lose hair fall on the floor. Her beautiful chocolate brown hair had started shedding and it was not a good sign.

"What's wrong daddy?" Isuzu asked.

"Oh, nothing." Iwaizumi said.

"Zuzu what do you want to eat? I'm ordering some-"

"She can't eat that-" Iwaizumi and Oikawa said in sync getting a look from Suzuki.

Awkward silence fell over them.

Oikawa cleared his throat and excused himself saying he was parched and was going to go have some water.

"Suzuki are you even in your right senses?" Iwaizumi asked in a angry tone.

"Excuse me?" Suzuki asked. "I'm just trying to-"

"What? Kill me before I do myself?" Zuzu pitched in.

"Zuzu!" Iwaizumi said turning to face his daughter.

"I'm sorry daddy but isn't that the truth of the matter?" Isuzu said teary eyed.

"If you think of the negatives only negative things will happen think positive." Suzuki says.

"Well, it's not easy thinking of positive things lately." Isuzu told her Suzuki.

"I'm dying! You know it and I know it too!" Isuzu cried out.

"Zuzu please don't say that." Oikawa's voice made Iwaizumi and Suzuki's heads turn to Oikawa who stood in the entrance. "Because you aren't and you won't." Oikawa continued as he walked further nearing to where Iwaizumi stood next to the hospital bed.

"Uncle Oikawa-"

"Your dads getting the best doctors to treat your illness and I know it's something you can fight." Oikawa said. "You are a strong girl."

"I can't." Isuzu started to tear up. "I want to be but I can't." Isuzu started crying.

Oikawa sat on the edge of the bed and hugged Isuzu. She started sobbing loudly on to Oikawa's chest.

"I don't want to hurt daddy, not anymore." Isuzu said and that cracked Iwaizumi's heart.

"No Zuzu, you're not hurting daddy." Iwaizumi said and just then Oikawa stretched a hand to Iwaizumi to hold and Iwaizumi took a hold of it and Oikawa immediately pulled Iwaizumi down to his level with Isuzu and they all three sat on the bed hugging. With Isuzu in between the arms of Iwaizumi and Oikawa sheltered like a momma bird would do to her baby.

"You're strong Isuzu." Oikawa said. "You're the strongest girl I've ever met."
