Chapter 45

I woke up and excitedly got dressed. I put on my sweatshirt with jeans and my converse. I raced with Brianna downstairs- only we didn't use the stairs. She grabbed the railing and jumped down from it as I jumped of on the railing and swung myself down to the first floor.

I sat with Brianna, Zach, and Mickey. We were like the best friend squad. I had one like this when I was younger. We shared jokes and laughed a lot causing the other tables to look at us. But we didn't care though.

I happened to look over at Carl and Enid's table. They didn't look so happy. I wondered what was going on. Enid kept giving me dirty looks and I just ignored her. That's all I ever did anymore.

Glenn and some of the others went on a supply run. The rest of us stayed back and patrolled the towers. Only there was one problem. We were to have to people at each tower, and you'd never guess who I got stuck with.

No it wasn't Enid.

No it wasn't my sister.

It was Carl.

My chest felt heavy as we climbed into the tower. I sat against the railing of the tower squinting to look outside of Alexandria. Carl leaned in the gate and shot any walkers he saw. He shot one and blew at the top of his gun. I huffed and shook my head.

"What's your problem?" He asked.

"I have no problem." I said looking out shaking my head in denial.

"Well, something's obviously wrong, because I know you, Lilly. Come on. Tell me." He said sitting down next to me.

"That's a problem." I said scooting away a little.

"What is?" He asked. Was he seriously that clueless?

"This. This whole thing is a problem. You act like we are friends and all goodie goodie with me yet you treat me like shit! In plain fucking English! And I'm tired of you asking me what's wrong when you know perfectly well what is wrong. That is my problem." I said breathing out at the end.

He sighed and shook his head. "Just because I broke up with you, doesn't mean that we can't be friends." He said.

"I can't be friends with you Carl. I can't. I couldn't handle that."

He squinted at me in disbelief. "So what do you want me to do? Break up with Enid and say that I love you more?"

"No Carl, I don't think I'm ready to be with anyone right now. In fact, this whole situation has kind of made me think about never loving someone again! And it's all because you were just stupid enough to believe someone else rather than your trustworthy girlfriend,at the time, who you've known longer."

"I did what I did for a reason." He said getting up. "I did that because what you did was wrong. You tried to kill someone who only injured you partially. And you know what? Enid and I are just happy together!"

I got up and got in his face. "Really? Because the past couple days I've seen you two do nothing but not talk and argue."

"I'm trying to be nice to you and get us to be friends, not enemies. I've tried very hard for this these past few weeks but you've made it very difficult. I just want to see if something good may come out if this."

I looked at him in disbelief. He seriously was that clueless. I looked into his icy blue eyes with seriousness.

"Yeah? What good's it done you these past few weeks?" He stood there dumbfounded with his mouth partly open. As if he was the parent and I was the child that just said their first curse word.

I climbed down the ladder and walked off. I couldn't stand him anymore sometimes.

"You'll see Lilly! We're going to be friends one day. And Enid and I will be happy together! Happy happy HAPPY!" He yelled after me. I flipped off not turning back.

I ate dinner and showered. When I entered the room I saw the squad sitting on the beds. Brianna and Mickey on one, Zach on mine. They all had evil looks on their faces.

"What's going on." I asked.

"We heard some fighting while you were in the shower." Brianna said slyly.

"Who fighting?" I asked. "Are Glenn and Adan alright-"

"Not them stupid! Carl and Enid!" Zach said.

My eyes widened and I jumped on my bed with Zach. "Tell me everything!"

Long story short, and I won't repeat anything they said because every other line had cussing, but they were having relationship problems. I told them about our conversation today in the tower, and they gave me a round of applause.

I guess they're still happy, right?
