Chapter 36

I woke up to the empty bed that I was unfamiliar with. Usually Carl would be by my side. But then I remembered yesterday. My heart swelled and I started crying.

Only Jack and my sister had truly cared for me now. Everyone else didn't talk to me. They all thought I was a terrible person. Believe me I felt like I was. But it's not my problem. They're clueless as to what their dealing with when it comes to Enid.

I got dressed into a black shirt with my jeans and combat boots. I walked out of my lonely cell being greeted by my sister. She hugged me and asked me if I was okay. I shook my head no and started crying into her shoulder. She comforted me for a while until I pulled myself together. She knew how Enid was too.

I walked outside to the horses stable and raked the hay for the horses. I tried to get my mind off things. But I failed when I heard a laugh come from the tool shed.

I looked over and saw Carl and Enid laughing and swirling each other around. He looked at her like how he used to with me. My heart broke and I broke down into tears. I didn't know that a breakup would hurt this much. I let out a few whimpers and sniffed.

"Lilly?" I heard Jack say.

I wiped my tears and nose and looked over at him.

"Hi bubba."

"Why are you crying?" He asked with a sad face.

"Because I'm sad Jack."

"Why are you sad?" He asked sitting down next to me.

"Oh just a fight Carl and I had. We aren't dating anymore. He likes Enid and not me." I said wiping another tear.

"Why would he like that bitch?" He said. I gasped and lightly hit his arm. "Dont say that bubba! That's a bad word!" "Sorry, I heard Carl say it. I thought it was good."

"Who was he talking about?" I asked scared to know the truth. He didn't say anything he just looked away. I smiled halfway and cried into my knees again.

"I'm sorry you have to see me like this Jack. *sniff* Jack?" I asked sitting up. I looked all over for him but then saw him running towards Enid and Carl.... with his sword.

"JACK! NO!" I yelled running after him. "JACK!" I yelled wiping some tears.

I saw him go up to them and they stopped dancing looking down on him.

"Why are you being mean to Lilly?" He asked them angrily.

"She's being mean to us Jack." Enid said.

"That doesn't give you the right to be mean back! You hurt her feelings!" He said lifting up his sword.

They gasped and I ran faster. "JACK STOP!" I yelled jumping on him. We fell and I took the sword away from him.

"Jack you can't do that! That hurts people!"

"But they hurt you! Let me at them! I want to make you feel better!" He yelled trying to get out of my grasp.

"Stop it!" I said.

"Pretty sad that you have to have an 8 year old protect you!" Carl said.

I looked at him. Oh how badly I wanted to slap him. "He's not protecting me. Don't talk to me." I snarled.

"Oh come on Lills! You don't have anyone to protect you now! It's sad that you have to go after children to not feel alone." He said. Enid laughed and I felt tears brim my eyes.

"I said don't talk to me!" I yelled this time walking away. I felt him push me do a onto the ground now. I fell on my lip, in the same spot right where he first did that. The memories flowed back into my head and I let tears fall.

"HEY! Carl!" I heard. I saw Maggie and Glenn come out. "Get away from my sister you little shit!"

"Come on Maggie I'm just having some fun." He said.

"No, you're being an asshole Carl! Get away from her." Glenn said helping me up. "But she-"

"I SAID LEAVE! NOW!" Maggie yelled.

He lifted his arms up in the air and walked off... holding Enid by her sides.

I started bawling as they comforted me. I was glad that Glenn cared about me now. We walked inside and Glenn brought me dinner to his and Maggie's cell. I ate some of the food. Maggie got upset with me.

"Lills, I know you're hurting right now but you have to eat!"

"Im not hungry. I haven't been for the past few days." I said. "You can't not eat." Glenn said. "Oh what are you guys gonna do about it? Shove it down my throat?" I said angrily. "If that's what it come to then yes." Maggie stated. I rolled my eyes and pushed my food away laying down on my bed.

I fell asleep crying.
