So I realize I have like, four requests I could write. I also realize that if I don't write this now I literally never will.

Enjoy :)

He had been prepared for a Padawan. Rex and Anakin had not.

Cody had prepared for another idiot Jedi to trail after and keep alive, he had prepared to learn about Togruta biology in case of a medical emergency, he had prepared for a sister.

Rex and Anakin had not.

So he wasn't surprised when he found the little (tiny, really) Commander sitting outside the two Generals' tent with a somewhat hurt expression on her face. "Sir? Everything alright?" He asked quietly, offering a hand to lift her up with.

She only took it after answering, when he gave her a more commanding look about it. "My Masters didn't want me to help with the upcoming battle plans," She said curtly. "Can't say I'm surprised, honestly."

He tipped his head. If Skywalker didn't know what he was doing, he figured at least his own General would. Excluding the girl certainly wouldn't help her learn. Cody gave a mischievous smile that said 'Don't worry I'll deal with them later' and continued, saying, "I'm sure they'll let you next time." Ahsoka let a hint of a grin reach her face. That was a step up, he supposed.

Cody led her away from the tent and into the makeshift camp the troopers had set up. Rex was sitting around a fire with Fives and a couple other troopers he recognized, joking, the Captain letting a small smile reach his face only to be wiped off as soon as he caught sight of his new Commander.

"Sir." He saluted and Ahsoka awkwardly waved him (and everyone else who was about to try and salute) off.

Ahsoka fiddled with the hem of her dress. This whole military thing was probably all very new to her. They weren't exactly teaching it in the temple, he realized. "Let's sit."

The girl shook her head. "Oh, I can't, this is for you guys, I should really get back and wait for my masters anyway, they'd-"

"No matter." Ahsoka's eyebrows sunk in confusion. "They're your soldiers, vod'ika, you've got to get to know them at some point."

She only seemed to wrap her arms tighter around her body and shrink in on herself. "Please, Cody," She said quieter this time to avoid the prying eyes of the clones around her.

He didn't have an idea as to why this would be so awful for her, but he backed off anyway and led her further across camp and to the outskirts, where the forest began. He stayed close- a hand hovering over her back while she gripped an arm tightly in her fingers. Tight enough he was a little worried she'd hurt herself. He knew what an iron grip that girl had.

"Hey," He prodded, knowing he could drop the formality. She didn't like it anyway. "Why don't you want to sit with the boys? They're your legion, after all."

She shifted her weight from one foot to another. The grip on her arm only got tighter, and her gaze avoided his. "It's not that I don't like them or anything, they're great."

"So?" Clearly, she wasn't all that comfortable even talking to him. That'd have to change. "You can talk to me, you know. I'm really used to being a big brother."

She cracked a small smile and loosened her hold on her arm ever so slightly. "I kinda just... Barged in. No one's used to me yet and it's really not fun." Cody nodded, urging her to continue, and sitting down on a nearby rock. Ahsoka followed but sat on the ground and leaned against it. An easy way to avoid eye contact, perhaps. "Too be honest, Master Skywalker probably hasn't talked to anyone younger than him since he was a Padawan, and the 501st isn't really... used to me." A pregnant pause fell. "Or want me."

Cody was quick to reassure. "Ad'ika, that's not the case at all. They're not used to you and they certainly didn't expect you to show up, but I know that in no time Rex will fuss over you like crazy." She let out a giggle that reminded him once again how young she was.

"You sure?"

The man, already towering over he, slid down the rock to meet her eye level as best he could. "Very much so. And until then, you've still got me to fuss over you."

Once again, the girl laughed and scooched a little closer. At least they were of the same rank- no one could really call them out about being friendly with each other. "Thanks, Codes."

He only nodded. It was his duty, after all, to take care of all his siblings. Even his unexpected (but welcome) little sister.

So I wasn't super proud of that, but it's a cute concept that I needed to get out there. I did end up rewriting it on AO3 tho 👀

Have a good day/night/whatever and I'll see you when I se you :)
