The next day, ivy and I spent it doing a dance. A strange one, the one where we both avoided each other. I attempted to keep my mind occupied, with thought of English literature and an upcoming law test. Still though, it was enough to keep thoughts of Ivy to crawling back into the front of my mind.
I deemed it useless to try and restrain my self from thinking of her. Everything about that last car ride stayed ingrained in my head, from her breaths to the tensing of her jaw. Everything. The last words I uttered her W was the simple request to take me home, that was it. A silent car ride. And that continued on to the next day
And the day after that.
It was the third day of unspoken words between us when I had a couple of periods off in the morning and decided to walk around the village catching up on my Christmas shopping.
At that time of year the village was beautiful, it was always charming but during the wintery Christmas months the place came alive. Shop after shop had some Christmas decoration or another, making the whole place a particularly jolly environment.
The stony pavement was icy adding an element of caution to my mid morning wandering. Grey hung around us, promising snow at some point but waiting until the last minute for it. Though the area was filled with the hustle and bustle of middle aged women, the effect of everything was rather peaceful.
I began my shop looking for Ella, she already had bits and pieces I'd collected through the year, but it felt wrong not getting her one today. And so in the hunt of Ella I went into the village 'kids shop'. In there it was as if a unicorn had thrown up and a dragon had... well done whatever dragons do. Toys and books lined the walls, making it all just seem so cosy. Immediately I went towards the puzzles for her and quickly found one I thought suitable. Just as I was about to pay, I turned noticing something.
My eyes darted to the wall of cuddly animals, all shapes all sizes everything. And my eyes made contact with a very small and still very cute teddy bear. Oddly enough, my thought went to ivy when I saw it, it's her black body seemingly like the only bit of clutter I could stomach in her room. It was a fairly cheap bear, and I knew it would be a gag gift but nevertheless I picked it up.
Satisfaction ran through me for the next twenty minutes or so, I found plenty for my siblings and had their Christmas all planned. Noah and Alex were next though I doubted I'd find much for them. I glanced at my watch and decided to go in one last shop then start heading home.
For some reason I was drawn to an odd mismatched crockery shop. It was a bit more weathered on the outside then the rest, it's stone walls ever so slightly crumpling. A bell rang on the door as I walked in, causing a frizzy haired older man to pop up behind the counter at the other end of the store. I smiled at him and then began looking at everything and nothing.
Perfect chaos. It was magnificent. Very few things went with the other and it made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Between mismatched tea pots and plates mugs and cups were scattered about. Then I was staring once again. A mug, as different as it was peculiar. A patchwork sort of design on the body of it, the handle more square like but thick. I picked it up, the weight of it comfortable in my hand. It was perfect for Ivy's incredibly boring mug cupboard, and with that I went to the wild looking old man.
*School that day was much the same as any other, until the end. I was heading out, my hands on my arms attempting retain some warmth. My thick white jumper and leggings weren't enough, it was December after all. Anyway, I was basically past the school gates when a hand was on my shoulder.
Instantly, I span around terror coursing through my veins. But when I saw who it was, I let out the breath I didn't realise I was holding. Ivy. Her eyes softens and oozed with sorrow as she noticed what she had done.
