By the time the first two periods had passed and I had a free period, I was done. I headed to the sixth form area and went to the corner. It was a pretty dismal 'lounge area' to be quite honest. A run-down crappy couch extended down one the the five walls. There was three circular tables with different coloured chairs, half of them broken. There was a shelf of old warn books that I hadn't once seen a single person pick up. Two walls had windows covering them just above a chipped windowsill. The corner I headed to was surrounded by walls with a scratched up armchair and coffee table. The room had only a few people in, a couple squished up on the sofa going over some class notes and a group of three apparently playing some sort of game with flashcards.
I sat down with my books and flicked through the pages as if somehow that would get me to read it. Fumbling with my bag I pulled out my water bottle and placed it to my lips. It was cold and unwelcome in my mouth, the water was possibly the thing I wanted least but was a welcome distraction. I swilled the water and looked it move against the metal surroundings of the bottle . The light swirled and reflected off, drawing my eyes to the bouncing liquid.
I must have been peering at it for quite a while, by the time I looked up Ivy had her back to the wall opposite me and was watching. The sky had finally given in and it was tipping it down. From the look of it had been there for almost 20 minutes. Ivy started approaching and came closer. She sat down on the coffee table and looked at me, closely. Her eyes scanned my face then her body hunched over as if she wanted to look at me even closer.
"How long have you got left" she asked
Once again I looked at the clock
"Precisely 37 minutes" I replied with light smile.
"What lessons this afternoon?"
"English lit"
Ivy nodded the stood up then tiled her head to the left. I rolled my eyes knowing she wanted me to move over. Instead I stood up, much to Ivy's surprise.
"We'll sit down then"
"Okay okay" Ivy muttered taking her place on the crappy arm chair.
I sat down to the left of her, my legs over her lap and my back rested against the back of the chair.
"Can I, ummm" Ivy murmured
"Hmmm"
" can I put my arm around your waist?" She asked in little more then a whisper
I turned and sat up, her face was sincere and cautious. Her eyes held kindness and curiosity, they were earnest in a way I hadn't seen in anyone else.
"Yes" I replied
And so her arm snaked my waist and I sat back down.A content sigh from the girl I was practically sitting on was enough to give me reassurance that what I was doing was okay - it was fine. When I looked at her face I felt a warmth spread through me. Her eyes were closed, her head tilted upward presenting me with her oh so attractive jaw line. Without thinking, I impulsively shifted toward her and kissed her cheek before sinking back down.
Automatically Ivy turned to face me, a sort of shock painted on her face. My affection was few and far between, and I enjoyed her reaction whenever I did give it, I liked the shock and the happiness she concealed. Ivy's hand came up to my face, tucking my hair behind my ears with a stupid smirk on her perfect face.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm okay" I said honestly "it's just, it feels strange"
"Of course"
Ivy planted a kiss on my left temple and pulled me in closer. I let her and sat there for a while, not concentrating on anything but her and I. My eyes shut, not from exhaustion, because I was so content. Ivy went tense underneath me and I paid no attention until I heard the firm sound of a cough. Not a genuine cough but the cough used when someone is trying to get your attention.
