I woke up a couple of days later, to a series of texts from Alex and my phone buzzing on the table next me. The sun was just starting to shine in through the window, glaring down onto my face as I rolled over and put my noise phone to my ear.

"Hello" I mumbled, slowly sitting up

"Morning" Alex laughed

"What do you want?"

I heard the sound of a fake gasp from my best friend

"Alex I just woke up. What do you want?"

"Get ready, I'll be there in 20 minutes"

"Alex-" I objected, but she hung up.

I sank down in my bed again, enjoying the warmth it provided me. But Alex was nothing but serious about plans, and unfortunately never late, and she wouldn't bail or listen excuses. So I got up. It was an odd occurrence, she tended to plan things out more and give me set structure or at least notice. Alex didn't tell me where we were going or what we were doing, which was even more frustrating considering I had 18 minutes and couldn't figure out what to wear. I settled on black leggings and a crop top, before pulling Ivy's grey sweatshirt, which she had accidentally left a couple of days ago, on as well.

With 5 minutes so go, I headed downstairs. My makeup was minimal, my clothes casual to say the least, but by all accounts I was ready. Unsurprisingly, when I turned the corner at the bottom of the stairs I could still see the reminance of the kids breakfast that morning. Alex's phone call had woken me up, which meant for the first time since Ella could walk it wasn't her coming tumbling in my room demanding toast or cereal that woke me up . I couldn't remember if it was a mum or dad morning, regardless they had kept them kids out of room and let me sleep. The gesture made me smile, as I pushed the bread back int the breadbox and lid back on the butter. All the dishes were in the sink, something I could do when I got back home later. Just as I considered the idea of making a coffee, I heard a tight knock at the door.

"Alex if that's you come in" I yelled, not bothering to turn around.

Sure enough, my best friend walked through the door. She looked stunning, her hair in a tight braid that she had pulled over left shoulder, a small blue strappy crop top show as her oversized jumper slipped off of her shoulders. Alex was the definition of confidence, her features accented by herself in a way that meant she knew she looked good. Not cocky though, never full of herself. Noah liked her for it, the fact that like everyone asked had insecurities but they weren't things she focused on. Alex had a unique ability for that.

"Good morning"

"You know this is my morning off" I said bluntly

Alex laughed, an amused tone in her voice as she replied "exactly"

"You're annoying"

"I know. Now get your shoes on"

I glared at Alex, a cold glare that showed every ounce of irritation I had at her.

"It's not even 9am"

"Not my problem"

She turned and left the room, leaving me confused at her rushed actions. Staring out through the kitchen door, I watched as she returned with my worn in white converse in her hand. The shoes released from her hand and rolled to a stop next to me.

"I'm in the car" Alex stated as she turned and left again.

If it had been anyone but Alex, I probably wouldn't have listened or put my shoes on and opened the door; I wouldn't have walked out the door, locked it and headed down the overgrown garden . Like an idiot, I did so and slipped into the car without a single word. I could hear the satisfaction from Alex through her muffled snigger as she turned the key in her car.
