As a child he used to get tortured a lot.
For any kinds of reasons.
A death in the order, a defeat in battle, a famine, the black plague..
Even for little things he got punished rather severely.
A misspelled word, a typo, a logic problem, taking too much time, crying, pronounciation issues.. or also writing with his left hand
In the educational area, the ounishment he'd receive was a beating with a stick. Usually his left shoulder that becomes bruised.
He sometimes also was slapped across his face.
He also spent a lot time chained up in a dungeon.
The neglect and torture had got him some serious illnesses and infections as well.
