He's actually Jewish.
He is from Acre (now Israel). His mother was born Jewish, but left Judaism behind and turned to Islam.
Jerusalem (who was immortalised after dying as a child, so they're NOT related to Israel or Palestine) is still Jewish as well as Israel.
This makes him partly Jewish.
