Lithuania dislikes not knowing that Poland is safe. It's one of his greatest weaknesses.

He also hates taking orders from anyone. Poland and Russia are huge exceptions.

In the middle ages Lithuania had great similarities to Grand Duke Vytautas and King Gediminas.

He never lost his old beliefs. He never truly accepted Christianity.
But he feared, if word got around, that a war may break out. Allies would turn their back and Poland would leave. The Teutonic Order would be able to justify their war.
Over the time he found himself so deeply entangled in this lie that he is too scared to let go. He knows Poland wouldnt leave him now. But he's still horribly scared of the small percentage that it'll ruin everything.
Also: Russia took a great part in making him scared to tell anyone about his beliefs.
