Slander - Back To U:
'So maybe I should put my heart out on the table and fuck it if it breaks. And maybe I've been hiding from what I'm afraid of but I don't wanna wait. I'm always running but my feet lead back to you'
"Oh hi, are you new here? Let me introduce myself. I'm George".
"Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Fiona". The smile on George's face grew when she shook his hand. "I just started working here this morning. I'll be replacing Jessie when she goes on maternity leave". Fiona answered without any voice cracks or stutters to her own surprise. Fiona couldn't help but look into those blue eyes. "And how is it going so far?" This was a question she had been asked multiple times already today but she was happy to answer it one more time right now. Fiona told him about her morning, about her chat with Madeleine in the lunch break and the first phone call she had just answered and he let out a soft chuckle. "Sounds like you're getting on just fine". She nodded back at him and there was a short silence, both of them not really sure what to say next. "Well, I have to go now, I'm sure I'll see you around again sometimes". George said quickly and he waved before he turned around and headed out the door towards the parking lot.
Fiona let out a big breath and looked down at her notebook where she was writing down some information before George came up to the desk. "Did you have a nice chat?" She heard Jessie ask from behind her and when Fiona turned around in her chair, she could see a cheeky smile across her co-worker's face. "Yes, he seems really friendly". She answered and she could immediately tell this wasn't the answer Jessie was looking for. "He's handsome isn't he?" The dark-haired woman asked and Fiona stared at her hands before she spoke up again. "He is, but I have a boyfriend, so you can erase those thoughts again right away". Jessie giggled and sat down on her own chair with a deep sigh before they got back to work.
The rest of the day went by rather quickly and Fiona was surprised when Jessie announced it was time to head home. She showed her what she was supposed to do before she left and after they logged out, turned the phone to voicemail and packed their bags, both girls headed outside towards their cars. "You did amazing today, Fiona. Have a safe drive home and I'll see you tomorrow!" Jessie said. "Thanks, you too. See you tomorrow!" Fiona said before she waved and got into her car. She chose an audiobook to listen to and started driving back home. It was only a few miles later that she realized she hadn't listened to a word the voice was saying and she changed it to her Spotify playlist.
Her thoughts were wandering all over the place: from the overall amazing feeling, she had felt today on the opening day of her first real job, to gaining some new friends in Madeleine and Jessie and meeting George this afternoon. Then, her mind took a different turn and she thought about Miles. Fiona hadn't thought about him until now and frankly, the text she received from him this morning had left a bad taste in her mouth all day. She was sure he would call her this evening and he would be all nice again like he always did, but the way he had been treating her lately, wasn't what she needed at all. But still, it was impossible for her to picture a life without Miles in it.
The drive home went by pretty quickly and Fiona was happy when she parked her car on their driveway again. Her dad Steven stared at her with big eyes when she walked through the door and she could tell he wanted to hear all the details. "I'll bring this upstairs first and then I'll tell you everything, okay?" She said to him before she walked towards her room with the pile of clothes she received today. After Fiona had changed into something more comfortable and put away the work clothes, she grabbed her phone from her purse. She had a few notifications but the first one she noticed was from Miles.

I'm sorry for getting so angry this morning, babe. It will take some getting used to, but I'm really proud of you. I want you to know that. Call me when you're back home, I miss you ❤️ x
