Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply:
'I'll love you more with every breath, truly, madly, deeply do. I will be strong, I will be faithful 'cause I'm counting on a new beginning, a reason for living, a deeper meaning, yeah'
Fiona and George had spent a few minutes with the puppy upstairs before they decided to show her to the rest of the family. George had called Madeleine to ask if she wanted to turn the music down, so they wouldn't scare the little dog and when they heard the sound decrease, the three of them went downstairs. There were 'ooh's and aah's' all around when they entered the room holding the fluffiest, white puppy in the world and everyone wanted to hold and pet her. "She's adorable!" Maddie said when she had fallen asleep on her lap.
In the corner of her eye, Fiona noticed George walking over to her parents and giving her dad a high five. "What's going on here?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowed and her head tilted to the side. "Do you remember that meeting I had to go to earlier this week?" George asked and Fiona nodded. He had left her house on Tuesday morning after they got home from Monaco on Monday night because he had a meeting to attend. "Well, that's when your dad and I went to pick her up. She's been living with your parents since then.." George said and once again, Fiona was in shock.
"Listen, sweetie, we know you may be wondering how you are going to take care of her when you have to travel but we have figured it all out. Steven, do you want to tell her?" Her mom said, probably because she saw Fiona's face getting more confused by the second. "I got a job offer from a company in Oxford, so we'll be moving over here in a few weeks. I didn't hesitate one bit when I realised we could be moving closer to you!" Her dad seemed really excited about his new job and of course, Fiona was super happy they weren't going to be living an hour and a half away anymore. "So we can take the puppy when you and George are travelling". He added next.
They had it all figured out and as much as Fiona felt the need to overthink everything before she made big decisions, she knew that there was no going back on this one. And she didn't want to. George had listened to her talk about Maltese puppies for months now and her parents knew the reason why she wanted one really bad. So to receive this adorable fluffy dog for her birthday was the greatest gift she could ever ask for. "Thank you guys so much. I can't believe this is even real". Fiona said while she looked across the room. Madeleine and Toby were on the sofa and the puppy was right in between them sleeping soundly. "This is truly a dream come true".
"Grandma would have loved to have met her, Fi". Her mom said and instantly Fiona's hand moved to take hold of the pendant on her necklace. George noticed and stepped closer to hold her. "I knew how much it meant to you and after the bad news in the hospital I just really wanted to do this for you". He said when Fiona turned her body to hug him. She couldn't even begin to explain how thankful she was for him. "Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted a Maltese. I didn't expect it so soon after living on my own for only a few months, but a lot has happened this year that I would have never expected". Fiona said while looking deeply into her boyfriend's eyes.
When she was little, Fiona used to walk up to her grandma Juliette's house after school to stay there and eat dinner until her parents were off work and came to pick her up and the first thing she'd always notice was the little face of Bailey in the window. Bailey was her grandma's Maltese dog and the sweetest and most caring thing in the entire world. She would follow you around everywhere, lay close to you on the sofa while you watched tv and she knew exactly when someone was ill because once when Fiona had the stomach flu, Bailey spent the entire day with her little head on Fiona's belly. She had promised her grandma that she would get a Maltese 'for Bailey to play with' when she got older and even though Bailey obviously died years ago, it still felt like Fiona kept her promise.
