Miley Cyrus - The Climb:
'I can almost see it, that dream I'm dreaming, but there's a voice inside my head saying: "You'll never reach it". Every step I'm taking, every move I make, feels lost with no direction. My faith is shaking. But I, I gotta keep trying. Gotta keep my head held high'
W A R N I N G: mention of infertility
George and Madeleine had caught up with Toby and just finished their dinner at a restaurant near the hospital. The Williams driver had called his team, apologizing for not being able to make the planned dinner with them and he explained what was happening to Fiona and that she wasn't returning to work this weekend. They had been very friendly and told him to stay with her for as long as was necessary and to wish her a speedy recovery once she had woken up. Madeleine was glad Toby had joined them because she knew the two boys got along really well, so he could be a support system for them both.
It had been a few hours since Fiona's procedure started and the three of them were getting more nervous the more time went on, but at about 7.30 PM George finally got a call from the hospital. "Oh god, it's them.." He said when he spotted the phone number on his screen. "Hello? Yeah, that's me.." Madeleine looked at George's face and saw the feeling of relief take over the longer he was listening to the woman on the other side. "Okay, we'll be there in a few minutes. Thank you so much, bye!" He hung up the phone and let out a big breath before he spoke up again. "Everything went well, she has been brought back to her room and they expect her to wake up in the next half hour or so, so we can go and wait by her bed".
The three of them immediately stood up from their table and after paying and thanking the staff for letting them spend the last few hours there, they were on their way. George walked ahead of Maddie and Toby when they entered the hospital and after greeting the reception lady again, he suddenly stopped when he spotted a shop with flowers, balloons and some other gifts. "I want to decorate her room a bit, so when she wakes up she won't be in a horrible, white hospital room". Madeleine thought it was a great idea and she searched for some cards and a big "Get Well Soon" balloon while George picked out the biggest bunch of flowers. With their arms full, they headed back to Fiona's room. George was the one to open the door first now and he let out a breath of nerves when he stepped in.
Fiona was still asleep but she looked much more peaceful now. The heartbeat machine was still beeping and she was hooked up to an IV of painkillers again, but George could tell the operation had gone as planned. He placed the flowers in a vase that he found in one of the cabinets and while Madeleine and Toby wrote the card and decorated the rest of the room, he walked over to his girlfriend. "I'm right back where I belong, my sweet angel". George whispered into her ear before he kissed her cheek and suddenly he noticed her eyelids flutter. "She is waking up. Maddie, come here!" He tried to whisper-yell at the blonde girl and they hurried towards the bed. George slid his fingers through Fiona's hand, careful not to pull out her IV and he felt her squeeze his hand lightly.
"Fiona?" He softly asked, noticing her face move slightly at the sound of her name. Her eyes were moving underneath her eyelids and she was trying her hardest to open them, but it turned out to be pretty difficult. "You're okay. I'm here, Maddie is here, Toby is here. You'll be okay". George said, stroking a few hairs out of her face before he cupped her cheek and let his thumb run over her skin. That was apparently all she needed because very slowly, her eyelids fluttered open and George let out a gasp when he spotted her gorgeous hazel eyes. "Hi, little one". He said, noticing a small smile forming on her face. Maddie let out a quiet sob when she looked at her friend waking up and Toby wrapped his arm around her waist to comfort her.
George saw his girlfriend open her mouth and she tried to speak but no sound was coming out. "Shh, it's okay. You don't need to talk, just rest for a bit". He said before he leaned over to place a soft kiss on her forehead, making Fiona let out a soft hum. "Do you remember what happened this afternoon?" He saw that she was thinking very hard because she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth before she slowly shook her head. She didn't remember. "Do you remember having really horrible cramps this afternoon? You had just finished your tour and you were upstairs in the hospitality.." Madeleine asked her best friend. Fiona slowly nodded and George could tell the memories were starting to come back.
