you and me?

it was a month till graduation.

Sarah and I had been together for four months.

I really do love her, but her heart was set on New York, that wasn't even in my wildest of visions.

My whole life is in Philadelphia, even if it isn't much of a life.

this could be our perfect ending, a chapter in my life that I would hold close to my heart for the rest of my days.

but deep down I knew I wasn't ready for our story to end.

"honey could you come in here for a moment!", I called through the house, hoping it would reach Sarah

"hi", Sarah smiled waking into the living room

"come sit down sweetheart", I patted the spot beside me

"whats up", Sarah spoke more serious

"we need to talk", I took her hand into mine as she sat down, squeezing it before letting go

"what about?"

"graduation"

"can you believe its in a month", she said giddily

"yeah, and I'm so proud of you my angel", I half smiled "but what about after graduation?"

"well I'm going to New York", she nodded

"and what about me?", I asked, quickly feeling selfish

"well I hadn't really thought about that", she admitted

"no, I didn't think you had", I chewed on my bottom lip nervously "do you want to be with me?", I breathed

"of course I do", Sarah sat closer

"so what does this mean for us.. if you're going to New York and I'm here?", I took a deep breath

"I don't want to loose you", Sarah cupped my cheek

"I know.. I don't want that either"

Sarah and I sat in silence for a moment, both of us thinking deeply

"why don't you come to New York with me?", Sarah broke the silence

"New York?", I laughed "you're serious", I said lowly

"yeah why not?.. you already have so many friends there and.... it could be just you and me.. we could buy an apartment and.... god I don't know, we could do everything", Sarah smiled through every word, her tone full of excitement

"but my job-"

"holland you are one of the most respected professors in America, you can get a job anywhere you please", Sarah moved closer again

I beamed at her, imagining what life would be like with Sarah.

That smile quicken faded

You can't go. She's twenty-four, graduating from college ready to start her life.

There is so much for her discover, to experience.

We have only been together for four months, this could all be over in a week.

She could suddenly realise that we are star-crossed lovers.

"I can't", I shook my head

"why not?"

"because my whole life is here", I shrugged

"you always say how your life makes no sense here anyway", she looked at me with pleading eyes
