~Sunnyshore City Gym~
Volkner stood at the entrance of his gym, talking to the guide, "I have to prepare to face lots of challengers this week." He sighed and shoved his hand into his pockets. "At least, I get to battle strong trainers, as well as that one trainer Brent told me about."
The guide welcomed the first wave of challengers as they immediately went to battling the gym trainers. Volkner looked around the facility and felt disappointed when he didn't spot the person he was most excited to battle.
"Make sure you give it all you've got! No easy wins!" Volkner encouraged his gym trainers. He thought about the message Cynthia delivered this morning, he noticed she seemed rattled and bothered judging from her body language.
'Why is the Pokémon League pushing the tournament earlier than originally planned? Maybe Flint knows what's going on,' Volkner thought. Normally he wasn't one to worry about trivial things but the decision to hold the Pokémon League later in the week seemed rather rash.
Earlier that morning...
Cynthia stood in front of the Pokémon League with the Elite Four members on either side. To her left stood Aaron, the bug-type Elite Four member. Although he's been a part of them for years, he's still the newest addition. Standing beside Aaron, was Bertha, known to be the strongest ground-type specialist in the region. Even in her old age, Bertha's wisdom of battling remains top tier.
On the champion's right, Flint, boasting powerful fire-type Pokémon. Whenever's he's not at the Pokémon league, which was often, Flint could be seen at one of the Battle Frontier facilities. Then Finally, the psychic type master himself, Lucien, the strongest Elite Four member. The last line of defense, ending trainers hopes before Cynthia gets the chance.
"Good morning to all in Sinnoh, and what a fine morning it is. The PBLSA has been a success thus far, all participating trainers are battling so hard for a spot in the Pokémon League Tournament. I, your champion, along with my comrades have decided to hold to the Pokémon League Tournament in six days!"
"This is what Pearl went talked to Cynthia about?" Isaiah asked rhetorically. Alisha increased the volume on television after the mention of PBLSA rankings.
"Here's a quick update of the PBLSA ranking," Cynthia said before the screen changed.
Pictures of the ranked competing trainers were shown in countdown fashion from 32 to number one. Alisha's eyes were glued to the screen as the pictures flashed by. Suddenly, she shouted and jumped in the bed when her picture and highlights of her last gym battle were shown at number 10.
"Top ten?!" Isaiah was stunned and excited about her accomplishment.
"Eeek, Top TEN!" She continued shouting, most likely disturbing everyone in the trainer's inn. "I-I have to call Platinum! I can't believe it!" Alisha scrambled over the bed and fished out the phone from her bag.
