Since Casey was kind enough to tell me that we weren't going out for dinner, I decided to bake something so we could eat independent of what we were going to do tonight.

Mason was helping me get the cake batter ready.

I was going to make my special chocolate cake since she mentioned that it was her favorite. I snickered at the memory since I had to refrain myself from making some kind of chocolate/dog-related joke back then, and Mason eyed me weirdly.

"You're laughing at nothing again. It's scary."

"Don't mention it and I may consider saving you a slice," I threatened him.

After I started to drink blood more regularly, my disgust over food thankfully began to fade. If that hadn't happened the others would surely force me to go to the hospital, and that would be a weird experience not only because I'm not fond of it but also because there's nothing physically wrong with me.

Well, apart from the fact that sometimes I feel my canines elongating into fangs.

When the cake got into the oven, I started to chop some strawberries, and Mason took care of the pan with the chocolate ganache.

Saying that his apartment was smelling great would be an offense to how it was actually smelling. People from the entire building were probably feeling it, and it only made Mason and me even prouder of ourselves.

Since he agreed on keeping an eye on the cake I decided to pass by Dana's dorm again to see if I'd have better luck this time.

I had no answer from her, both from texts and from me knocking on the door, but a girl passing by said that she heard noise from the apartment and saw Dana early in the morning.

She said that she was probably really tired since she didn't even mess with Jake in the hallways and had a huge hood over her face, but at least I knew she was okay, probably just not in good shape to talk about the project.

I decided not to bother her and went back to Mason's dorm, smelling the deliciousness of the cake from far away in the hall.

When I got in, I saw Mason trying to stop Avery from eating all of the strawberries I had chopped, but they stopped after seeing me.

"Did you find her this time?" Mason asked, and with his distraction, Avery finally got his strawberry. "Hey! No eating!"

"I didn't, but a girl told me she saw her this morning, so it should be fine. Is the cake ready?"

"Yeah, just waiting for it to cool down a bit so we can take it out of the tray."

After getting the cake ready, I went over to Haven's place to our scheduled training.

At this point, I just walked in without waiting for them to come to get the door, but this time instead of leading us to the training room, the vampire said they wanted to show me something.

"I was cleaning the basement for the first time in centuries and found something you'll probably like."

We were now in a yet unknown room that had a few items covered by white sheets.

Haven signaled for me to get closer as they took the sheets out of one of the things, an object that had a huge square shape.

A frame.

The painting of a sleek and elegant man was in it. He had black short hair and had this honest feeling to him, but it was most likely because of the way it was painted, full of feeling.
