I found Troian in the kitchen cooking some stew so I soon approached her to offer some help.
"Thanks," she said after I got her the ingredients that were missing.
We stood there for a couple of minutes in silence before I finally dared to say something.
"So," both of us said at the same time.
"You can go first," I said, and she nodded before continuing. This is so awkward.
"Well, I'd like to apologize for not coming sooner yesterday. I could have prevented all of that from happening." Her voice showed how regretful she was, but it's not like it was her fault.
"Hey, you weren't the one who kicked me until I was a bag of broken bones or the one who stabbed me. Even if you did come earlier, I doubt that your sisters and I wouldn't eventually fight," I said, noticing her cringe when I mentioned the word "sisters".
Mental note to not do that again.
"Also, if they hadn't taken me, I wouldn't have found Dana and her boyfriend, so it kinda was for the best."
"I guess you're right," she sighed, and I approached her to place a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"I usually am," I grinned, making her laugh at my words. "What?"
"Saria usually says that. It reminds me of when we had our first meeting without me trying to kill her on the spot."
"Oh, since we got into this subject, how did this happen?" I asked, signaling to her and then the mansion.
"Well, I was never really fond of everything that we did back then, and things started to get a bit out of hand after I met Saria. We were trying to kill each other at first, but then things changed." She explained while swirling the stew with a wooden spoon. "She knew I was her mate when she looked in my eyes after pinning me on a tree, but I had no clue, so I still wanted to kill her."
"Father had given me two weeks to get it done, and somewhere in the middle of it, things changed. It was like everything that was building up for the last 24 years of my life finally caught up to me and I finally accepted that I couldn't take it anymore."
"You were always different from the twins and Jace anyways. I guess I always had a hunch you'd eventually come around," I said while smiling genuinely. Troian had finally stood up for herself instead of just doing what others wanted.
"I think I have to thank you a bit for that too. Thinking of you being all rebellious made me question a few things about my life, and me overhearing your gay shows late at night helped me accept that perhaps I wasn't as straight as I thought."
"I'm glad I could help," I laughed, choosing not to tell her that I actually knew she was gay and purposely watched those shows when I knew she was up to listen. "And thank you. For everything you did for me back then."
"We are sisters after all, aren't we?" Troian said, and her face made it look like she was scared to say those words.
I, on the other hand, was really happy to hear them, so I couldn't help but hug her after she dropped the wooden spoon back on the counter.
"Damn, you got stronger," she said a bit breathless as I tightened the hug, laughing at her words. "I always wondered how you'd be after you got a chance to take care of yourself without the others getting in the way."
"Yup, and all it took was a bit of blood." I finally let her go.
"That reminds me, did that girl really run you over?"
