"Kiyoko you look as pretty as ever!"

"Kiyoko let me get that for you."

"Kiyoko you look beautiful."

"Kiyoko's so sexy."

"Kiyoko's such a goddess."

You were curled up on the couch, hands over your ears. You knew your older sister was perfect. Everyone did.

But you had hoped that maybe, just maybe, your boyfriend wouldn't continuously fawn over her. But that's exactly what he did. What he has done. For the entire four months you've been dating, he still continued to obsess over Kiyoko.

You were sick of it. It hurt. You'd tried asking him to cut back on the compliments, and he would. For a day or two. Then he was back to praising her and the entire cycle would repeat.

The doorbell rang, and you stood up. You'd texted him saying that he needed to come over.

You opened the door.

"Hey Sunshine!" he says happily, using the nickname he'd given you the day after you started dating.

"Come on in," you say, turning and leading him inside. You sat down on the couch, and he sat across from you in a chair, looking nervous.

"Hey, is everything alright?" he asks.

You shake your head, trying to figure out how to start.

"Is everyone okay?" he asks. "Did Kiyoko-"

Your eyes snapped up to him, suddenly angry.

"That's what you're worried about?" you ask. "How Kiyoko is doing?"

"I just thought-"

"No," you cut him off. "Tanaka, I asked you to come over because I'm sick of this."

His eyes widened in panic. You always called him Ryu.

"Sick of what?"

"The fact that no matter how much I ask you and tell you that it bothers me, you're still fawning over Kiyoko!"

You were shouting, shaking, and on the verge of tears, but you didn't care.

"I've asked you so many times Tanaka!" You shouted. "You don't seem to care that you drooling over my sister bothers me!"

He sat there, shocked. He hadn't even realized he'd been doing it so much, but now that you said it he felt bad.

"I'm sorry. I'll-"

"What? You'll stop? You'll compliment her less? You say that every. Single. Time. How am I supposed to believe you?"

He reached out a hand, then dropped it and looked down.

"I...I don't know Y/N."

You sigh and run a hand through your hair.

"I think we need a break Ryu."

His head snapped up.

"What? No I-"

"It's not," you say quickly. "A breakup. Yet."

He felt like his heart was shattering as you slowly opened the door. He left, pausing at the steps.

"I really do love you Y/N. Please don't end things."

"I'm not. Not yet. I love you too. But you have to prove it to me."

You closed the door, and started crying.

It had been about a week since that fight, and you had noticed a change. You were a manager with Yachi and Kiyoko, but had been letting them handle things so you could avoid practice. Tanaka gave you your space, though still sending you a goodnight text every night. Kiyoko had told you that he'd been dialing way back on compliments, but that he didn't seem to be playing as good.

So, there you were, sitting behind the Karasuno banner, watching him play a game against Aoba Johsai. And to be honest, he really wasn't doing well.

He missed about half the sets he was given, and he seemed ready to pull out the hair he didn't have. It was 14-15 in the final set, and you knew something had to happen. It was his turn to serve, and his hands were shaking.

You looked at Saeko and you both grinned at each other.

"C'MON RYU!!" You both shouted. "KICK THEIR ASSES!"

His head whipped around, and it was like he was being reborn. He stood up straighter and you saw a fire in his eyes.

The ref blew the whistle. He turned back to the court and served the ball so hard you heard an echo.

Karasuno's side cheered, and you smiled.

"Thanks Saeko," you say. "He really needed that."

"Damn right he did, now go make up with him already! He's been super bummed out since you talked to him."

You nodded and ran down to the court, where the entire team was celebrating. You started walking up behind him, and he turned, almost sensing your presence.

"H-Hey sunshine," he says nervously. He didn't waste any time in smiling at you like you were his world.

"Hey Ryu," you say back, rubbing the back of your neck. "You did great out there."

"Yeah..." he trails off, looking down. "I had some great support."

For the first time since the fight, you got a good look at him. He seemed almost the same, aside from the slight redness of his eyes.

"Do you wanna...talk?" you ask, tilting your head towards the doors.

"Yeah, that would be great."

You both walk out of the gym, the silence deafening. You turned to him, but he spoke first.

"Y/N, I am so sorry. I didn't even realize I was doing it until you said something. I've been trying, and I've been listening to what you said. I can't..."

His voice cracked, and you saw that your normally tough boyfriend was about to cry.

"I can't live without you. Half the things I do remind me of you, and it just makes me want to cry. I'm sorry Sunshine. Please...take me back."

You gave him a soft smile and took his face in your hands.

"We never broke up Ryu," you say softly, wiping the tears off his face. "I just...didn't know if you loved me."

"I do," he whispered, leaning into your touch. "I really do."

"C'mere."

You pulled him into a tight hug, and he buried his face into your shoulder.

"I missed you Sunshine."

"I missed you too Ryu."

He pulled back and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.

"You know why I call you Sunshine?" he asked.

He placed a hand on your cheek.

"Any time I feel like shit, or wonder if I'm good enough, or just need extra support, you're always there. Even today you were there when I needed it. You always make me feel like I can do anything. Playing without knowing you were there...it hurt. It was like playing with the lights off."

You smile and place your hand over his.

"Well, you won't be in the dark anymore Ryu."

Why am I so proud of that ending? Was that smooth or am I just being overconfident?

This is honestly one of my favorite chapters I've written. Hope you enjoyed!
