Hashirama awoke in his new home. It was a different feeling to open his eyes to new surroundings. He was used to hearing Tobirama scrambling around the house in the morning, but in this one, it's quiet.
Sleeping soundly beside him was Mito. She had insisted that they shared a room, despite their arrangement. Her reasoning was if Tobirama or anyone were to surprise them, it would be hard to explain why they slept separately. Hashirama only agreed because she promised to not cross any boundaries without his permission. It was more painful than he expected to wake up beside her. He wished it was Madara laying there, instead of her.
Hashirama slipped out of the bed and quietly left the room, doing his best to not disturb her. He wanted this time to himself. Becoming adjusted to this new life was a weird process, especially with Mito's ultimatum in the picture now. There was so much to go over in his head and he rarely had time to be alone to think.
Hashirama wanted to talk to Mito about her deal with him. He wasn't ready to be a father, yet. Maybe she would understand, like she did with Madara. She seemed reasonable enough.
"Good morning," Mito cheered as she entered the kitchen.
Hashirama was sat at the table, completely lost in thought. Hearing her voice ring in his ears immediately woke him up from his daze.
"Good morning."
Mito started grabbing ingredients to prepare a breakfast for the two of them.
"I'll be going to go to the doctor today," she hummed.
"Are you sick?" Hashirama genuinely asked. He scanned his eyes over her, looking for any possible ailments.
She giggled and shook her head. "No, I'm not sick. I'm going to see when we can start trying for a baby."
Hashirama could feel his heart skip a beat.
"So soon?" he anxiously replied.
"Well, yeah. I don't want to wait," she sighed.
Hashirama stood up and walked over to where she was standing in the kitchen. He grabbed her hand and pulled her away from what she was doing to get her full attention.
"Mito, I don't think I'm ready for this yet. I have a lot of responsibilities as Hokage, and I-"
"We had a deal, Hashirama," Mito interjected.
"I-I know. I'm not backing away from it, I just need more time." Hashirama explained.
Mito scowled and snatched her hand away. "You need more time because you didn't tell Madara, right? You're afraid to, aren't you?"
She was partially right.
"I'm not afraid to tell him-"
"So I'm right?" she snapped.
"What's wrong with waiting? You'll get what you want, I promise," Hashirama pleaded, trying to defuse the situation.
"What if I just casually mentioned to Tobirama about what I saw on our wedding night, then?" she seethed, glaring a hole right through Hashirama.
It was like a switch went off in Hashirama. This threat sent a wave of anger through him. He snatched her by the shoulder and got inches away from her face.
"Are you out of your damn mind?" he shouted.
Mito showed no fear. "You promised me, Hashirama. I'm sorry I said that, but I honestly think I'm being pretty fair given the circumstances."
Hashirama let go of her and backed away.
"You threatened me," he sighed, burying his face in his hand.
