Hi, I'm Kai Armand Gray, the 13 year old child of Andre and Leigh-Anne Gray.

Kai's POV: Gender for me is what you identify as, sex is what you were assigned at birth. My sex is male but my gender isn't on the same line, I don't like to identify as either male or female. Done some research and I think I'm non-binary and my preferred pronouns are they/them.

"Mum, can I talk to you about something really important?" I ask my mother, walking into her bedroom to find her reading a book.
"Yeah, what is it, darling?" She replies, her eyes reverting towards me inviting me to sit on the bed which I do.
"I've been keeping something to myself for a while and I am scared how you may react" I tell her, honestly.
"You don't have to keep anything from me, I'll never judge you, darling" She reminds me, putting the book down and sitting up "What's going on?"
"I'm non-binary where I don't like to identify as either a male or a female..." I explain and she nods.
"So, you don't wanna identify as a boy anymore?" She asks and I nod "So what do you identify as?"
"I identify as a non-binary and my pronouns are they/them. I don't like being called son or any male nicknames but gender-neutral names like child etc." I tell her. "So if you could refer to me as just your child not son, that would really be nice." I explain to her.
"That is wonderful to hear, darling. I know you've never been comfortable being called a boy, you are completely valid and I love you no matter what!" Mum tells me, pulling me into a cuddle.
"Is there a name that you'd prefer to be called?". I shake my head. "Is it okay if I tell dad about this?" I nod and smile, warmly.

I am lucky to have parents like them.
