The ropes felt tight and there was little give to them, I am surprised she is not complaining from the pain they must be causing.
"Don't they hurt?" I asked, not liking that she was hurting.
"What hurt?"
"The ropes?" I finally pulled the knot apart, unwrapping her hands.
"I guess, I have a high tolerance for pain, I was turned to stone alive once.... It messes with the feelings like touch or smell." I pity her, that must have hurt. "Not even my burn hurts that much because of that."
"You were burnt? Where?"
"It's fine Skarla."
"But Seva."
"It's fine, that's not important right now."
I felt her pull her hands apart when the rope was loose enough and then shuffling.
Suddenly a ball of pure light appeared in her hands.
"Wow! What's that?!" I poked it and it was a bit hot as my hand past through it.
"Light, one of the main elements."
"Light? I though it was only earth and like the rest like it."
"Light and darkness are elements too.... Seems that too was forgotten to time. Not the most versatile part of elemental magic but it has its use." That's true, like letting us see now.
She let the ball of light float around as she untied her ankles.
I watched her stretch and walk the numbness, that she probably feels, away, a question on the tip of my tongue.
"Speak if you have something to say." She said, sitting on her knees in front of me, the bars still separating us. "I always said no question is a stupid question. What is stupid is not asking and robbing yourself of an answer, no matter how weird or simple it might be."
I grabbed my own hand, squeezing it.
"Do you have an idea how this happened?" I asked, my hand sliding down to hold my wrist as I looked at my open palm.
"Your mother hid things from you."
I tensed up, no I don't want to believe it, she can't be a liar.
"Why would she?" How can she know if my mother lied?
"To protect you."
"From what?" How can she know the reason.... My mother lied?
"It might be hard to believe but you might also be of royal descent, more specifically of the main bloodline, the one of dragon blood."
"You are shitting me."
"I-- I am not shitting you as you colorfully said. Skarla I died in the Decay, no force bigger then the gods themselves could bring me back, as they talked and mentioned people, Merlin, his offspring, his granddaughter, I saw their face, I heard their voice, I saw their life. Even if it was not intentional the gods had showed them to me purely by mentioning them in my presence... With the little research I time to do on the little knowledge you can still write about and talking to people along with your mother's says I can confidently say that your family is tied to the silver queen's, the silver dragon is your ancestor, your face is a lot like hers.... That's why you looked so familiar when I first saw you."
"No... No that's not true, it is a disease to look like this!"
"Skarla you need to believe me, I seen more then you and know more, why do you think I collapsed after that sip of tea? That sugar has Wither Away essence mixed into it, it is potent."
"But I always drink tea with sugar."
"And do you remember when you started?" I couldn't answer. "Exactly, your mother also drinks it with sugar, if I didn't I would have never noticed the trick."
"Why would she lie?"
"If it is a lie perpetuated through the family through generations to hide the truth. She did say you were too young to know the truth."
I gasped, she did also tell me something like that once when I asked about my hair, that I am too young....
"Why would magic show itself now? She is known as the most powerful queen that ever reigned."
"Wither Away sapped away your magic, that's why when I first met you I thought you had no magic at all in you."
"But why now."
"Emotions, anger is a great catalyst to awaken ones magic, since your family always suppressed its magic with that plant it never manifested, always passed down to the next generation but much stronger and each generation it grew stronger until now, when the plant lost the battle and you awakened it through anger, an explosive and violent anger best suited for fire."
"This doesn't make sense." I didn't want to believe her but for now she did make sense unfortunately.
"Does it not?" She asked, a brow raised up. "Skarla you don't need to believe me right away but I'll be here to teach you if you want to learn about what you were gifted with, mages train from much younger so it might be harder for you but I believe that you are capable of learning."
"Can't be." I whispered.
"Skarla the Elites will come back and I cannot beat them alone, I am stronger but they will be numerous I know it. They will not be taking prisoners, everyone here will die, we need to leave and go to the elves, I am still resent history for the king, I knew his grandfather, I can get them to not be hostile to your people if we leave and that now."
"They will not willingly leave."
"I know that, I got told off about my idea of leaving but please understand it is their lives on the line, we need to leave."
"Maybe you should." For the first time I saw shock on her face. "You can still make the journey but these people cannot see past their lives... If I die they might be spared."
"THEY WON'T BE!!" She yelled, grabbing me through the bars. "Don't you understand it?! They will kill you first, then your family, after that your people and then all you built here, they will wipe this mountain clean of any proof you ever existed!"
"Seva please let go."
She dropped her arms, looking.... Somehow, I can't read her face and it hurts me, I needed to look away, not able to bare the weight of her gaze.
"Skarla you can't be serious...."
"Here..." I dropped the bag I brought with me. "Supplies..." is all I added, getting to my feet.
"Skarla come back here! SKARLA!!!"
