Chapter 95 - Can we go?

- a year later -

*Tom pov*

I'm sitting in a cafe with Luke, going over a few projects, when he shows me that thanks to my donations I've been nominated UNICEF UK Ambassador.
So if I can and want I have to go in South Sudan for a couple of weeks in about a month and a half.
The thing is I need to talk with the family about this.
"That's great! I'll get you back on that as soon as I talk to Charlotte and the kids"
"Sure, take your time man"
Luke and I talk a bit more before going our separate ways, mine is home.

As soon as I open the door my legs are engulfed by the twins arms, they are now two.
"Papa!" They both say
I pick them up and give them kisses, I then see Alex and Ellie coming towards me
"Hi dad"
"Hi buddy" I say smiling at him and ruffling his hair when I put Lukas down
"Princess" I say hugging Ellie
"How was your day?" She asks
"Good, I've got some news. But first let me change and talk to your mother"
"Sure! Come on Kate" she says grabbing her sister from my arms

I walk upstairs and into our room, finding Charlotte on her laptop sitting in bed.
"Hello there handsome"
"Hi there beautiful"
We share a kiss and as I change she asks me what Luke and I have talked about and if she can know.
"I do have some important news..."
"Mhm...spill Hiddleston" she says sitting in front of me legs crossed
"UNICEF nominated me UK Ambassador" I say smiling
"Really?"
"Mh-mh"
"Wow"
"The thing is...they asked me to go to South Sudan to go in schools and medical camps in the villages and other things to help the community"
"Ok...that's good" she says
I take her hands in mine and look in her eyes
"I have to be gone for at least two weeks, but I don't want to leave you alone"
"Tom, you have to go"
"Yeah...but what if you come with me? You and the kids, it will be a great opportunity for them to really understand what it means to live in certain conditions. You, Ellie, Alex and I in South Sudan"
"That's...I think that could work"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah!" She says kissing me softly on the lips.
"So we are really doing this uh!"
"We are! When do we have to go?"
"In a month"
"Cool, should we tell the kids?"
"Let's go downstairs!" I say taking her hand again and leading her.

"Ok everyone! Sit on the sofa!" I say
Ellie and Alex do so, we let the twins play on the floor as we talk.
"What's going on?" Alex asks
"Daddy has been nominated UNICEF UK ambassador!"
"Did you really?" Ellie says
"Ah ah!"
She hugs me tight and tells me how happy she is for me
"But that's not all. I need to go in Africa for two weeks, at least"
"Oh...we are going to miss you so much" Alex says a bit sad so I pick him up from his spot and sit him on my leg, one arm around his waist and the other around Ellie's seeing her sad look.
"That's the point actually...you won't miss me cause we you and mum are coming with me" I say smiling
"Yay!" They both exclaim
"Twins are staying with grandma?" Ellie asks
And Charlotte and I nod.

After calling my mother to tell her the big news, and her being excited for us and for having the twins over, and having dinner we settle down on the sofa and stare to go over the list unicef sent me of the things we need to do such as taking anti malaria medications or things we have to bring down there, and at the end of they day we are both excited and exhausted from the tiring day behind us, so we get in bed and fall asleep easily.
