Jooha
I don't get it...Why is he treating me like this?
Once more I found myself wandering off in this huge mansion. I came to hold in front of Taesung his bedroom door.
I have never been there before.
His bedroom seemed like an off-limits room to me. Just like many other rooms in this mansion that had steady locks on them. With no maids in my sight, I decided to give the door handle a quick tug and to my surprise, the room wasn't locked at all.
Slipping inside made my heart race at the actions I performed. Once more it made me think If I get found, they will kill me. But the truth is no matter what I do. I was never harmed. Not even when I tried to escape that day.
Entering Taesung his room made me stunned.
''It's more normal than I thought.'' It didn't differ that much from the other rooms or even my room. A huge bed, long curtains...the only thing that caught my eye in an instant. Was a painting.
She is beautiful.....
A painting of a woman hanging right in the middle of the room. She was standing in the exact same garden we had here outside. Her smile was so bright while her eyes glistened. She held onto the skirt part of her white dress that seemed to get hit by a gust of wind. Her hair was also like this. Perfectly portrayed in vivid strokes, her long brown locks framing her face and cascading down her chest. Her green eyes were colored so brightly as if the sunlight from that day was lighting them up.
This was painted here....Who is she?
''That's the lord's deceased wife....'' I froze on the spot hearing Casey her voice next to me.
''Beautiful isn't she?'' Instead of a scolding, I watched her look at the painting with a hurtful smile.
Taesung's deceased wife...
''She is....breathtaking.'' To think Taesung had a wife....one like her at that. She seems the total opposite of him.
''H-How did she die?'' Is it okay to ask these things?
''She was killed.'' I shouldn't have asked...
''I'm sorry I didn't mean to-''
''No, it's fine.'' Casey reached for my shoulder softly patting it.
''She was truly something...our lady.'' I want to know more about her.
''Do you mind telling me about her?'' With a fond gaze, she shook her head before guiding us both to the couch positioned in the room.
''It was decades ago. The marriage of Lord Hak and my lady. An arranged one but even so, my lady didn't seem to mind. She was different from other vampires. Unlike her Lord Hak despised humans. It was like that for every other vampire, but my lady thought differently. Equals...she thought of humans and vampires as equals. It started with her bringing a human home as a new maid. It was a human with no place to go. Before we knew it the house was filled with humans working as maids among other vampires. The lord....started to slowly open up as well and accept humans in our castle. My lady was loved by everyone. Children, elderly people, the villagers adored her. Until....''
The smile that grew on me hearing these loving things about her faded away as Casey her eyes started to hint red.
''Something happened causing her to use her supernatural abilities. A witch is what they called her.....The existence of vampires wasn't known back then.''
This really happened hundreds of years ago.
''The lord was out that day and none of us knew what was going on outside. We thought she would be returning home any time.''
''W-What did they do?"'
''They killed her...Burned her alive for everyone to see. I heard that The lord arrived too late. When he came to rescue her she was already burning from the fire.''
Taesung.....went through that...
''What happened after that was a cold bloody mess. No matter how many years will pass I will never forget that night. All the villagers....were dead. Men, Women, children. It was just one pile of corpses. When the lord arrived back home....'' I could tell that Casey shivered on the spot recalling those memories.
My hands flew around her rubbing her arms to make her ease up.
''It went on for the rest of the night. The screams....the begging, the cries...He killed them all. Every living human in the castle. It reeked of blood for days and cleaning the corpses took us weeks. After that, he returned back to the old person he was. Only this time even cold-blooded than before. As modern society started of course the lord had to adapt as well, but he still despised humans.''
I don't know what to say...
''At first, I felt sorry for you...when you arrived. But later on, it was clear that our Lord cares for you.'' Taesung cares about me...? Why?
''W-Why?'' Her head looked up at the painting portraying Taesung his beautiful wife.
''You are a lot alike. My Lady and you that is.'' I felt stunned for a moment as I scanned the painting as well.
We look nothing alike...Maybe our body proportions and hair length?
''Strong and independent, but also really caring and gentle. You see the garden was made for our lady. She loved flowers, so do you. She was also a real bookworm. When you first came here you locked yourself up in the library, reading for days.''
''We're not that alike...'' Liking the same things doesn't make us that alike.
''Well hear this. Just like you, My lady was allergic to kiwi and her favorite dishes were anything that's spicy.'' That does sound like me.....
''So Taesung cares for me because I remind him of his deceased wife?'' Casey slowly nodded at my question.
''I think so...''
''Do you wish to leave Jooha?'' Her sudden question took me a bit back for a moment. I never thought to receive such a question from her. I'm sure she was informed about me trying to escape that one time.
But thinking thoroughly about it.....The only reason I want to leave is so I can be with Y/N during these times. I don't want to worry the others as well, but if it wasn't for that. Would I still wanna leave?
I have gotten the most rest I ever had in a long time. Delicious meals and snacks whenever I want. Beautiful dresses to wear, spending my days taking care of a gorgeous garden, and reading books under the night sky.
And being with Taesung.....it wasn't scary or unpleasant at all. I keep asking myself why I don't feel scared when I'm with him. Rather...I feel safe.
''I....I think it's better if I leave.''
