may, caroline and stefan were having fun when elena came over to talk to them.
"look who finally joined the party." she said looking at stefan.
"yeah. why? are you jealous or something?" stefan asked her.
"no. that would imply emotions, and we've already established those are useless." elena said.
"come on, elena. just dance with us." caroline said.
"no. you guys look good together. by all means, care, just take him out for a spin. he could use it." elena said looking between caroline and stefan.
"well, she just completely forgot i was standing here." may said after elena walked away.
sheriff forbes walked into the house and elena tried to eat her making caroline rush to save her.
stefan stepped in before caroline could go and attack elena.
"caroline, calm down." stefan told her.
"calm down? i'm gonna wring her skinny little neck!" caroline said before elena took off with her mother.
stefan, caroline and may ran after them. they were walking in the woods in the dark.
"elena! where the hell is she?" caroline asked.
"right where she wants to be. this is completely calculated. she drew all those people to the house, waiting for an opportunity to distract us, and now she's free." stefan said.
"elena!" may shouted.
"i can't believe she's doing this. i mean, she hurt my mom, stefan." caroline said.
"all right, listen. you search the woods, may and i will check the road. if you see her, don't hesitate. just snap her neck, got it?" stefan asked.
"yeah." caroline replied.
"okay." stefan said before they split up.

stefan and may got damon to come help look for elena and while they were searching, they heard fighting.
they made their way to where the voices were coming from and they saw elena was about to stake caroline.
may quickly grabbed elena arm, twisting it until she let go of the stake and stefan push her away from caroline making damon grab elena.
"let go of me!" elena said.
"i admit, under any other circumstances, this would be a major turn on." damon said.
"not the time, damon." may told him.
"get her out of here." stefan said as he helped caroline up.
after all of that went down, caroline went back to the boarding house with stefan and may.
they went to go sit with her and caroline was just finishing up a voicemail for tyler.
"you all right?" stefan asked her.
"you mean, besides the face that my best friend tried to kill me?" caroline asked.
"look, it's not her. you have to remember that. with her emotions off, she's the worse version of herself." stefan said.
"so how do we get her back? or what if we can't? why would she choose to turn her emotions back on? she's an orphan. she just lost her brother. her life sucks, stefan. so why would she come back to us?" caroline asked.
