"Come on, Li, it's your birthday - we have to do something?" As the end of October nears, December is looming close in the near future and while I was quite excited when I found out Lilah's birthday is the day after mine, but Lilah hasn't shared the same enthusiasm. "I don't celebrate my birthday, I haven't in years," the teen shrugs from across the kitchen island, not even looking up from her phone to argue about it.
I sigh as I look down to Auggie, I'm sat on the floor beside his mat as he sits and plays with his toys, "fine, but we will be revisiting this conversation," Lilah just laughs as she shakes her head, "I'm not going to change my mind." If I have learnt anything the last few months, it's that Lilah is stubborn. Usually I don't mind, but I really don't want Lilah's 15th birthday to pass without even doing something small.
"Come on you, we don't wanna be late," Karlie rests her hand on Lilah's arm as she comes into the kitchen - grabbing Rosie's lunch bag and water bottle from the counter. "We'll finish this conversation when you get home from school!" I call after Lilah and the teen just shakes her head as she follows Rosie out to the car, "you're not going to win, Taylor." Karlie chuckles as she kneels down by Auggie and I, "give her time, she'll come around to the idea," we share a quick kiss and I remind Karlie i love her before the model leaves to take the kids to school.
I sigh as I look down to my son, Auggie staring up at me with a building block in his hand, "your big sister doesn't like to make mommy's life easy, buddy." August just babbles in response and I just smile at him, "but you're a little angel, huh?" I kiss the top of his head and he gives me a big cheesy smile - he's nearly five months now and he's getting bigger every day, and some days I wish I could just keep him this tiny forever.
"Do you wanna try your bottle again, little man?" He's been a fussy little guy when it comes to food the last few days, he's old enough to start solids but hasn't been the biggest fan of anything we've tried him with, but he's also been protesting against his bottle too. "There we go, you just needed to scream about it a bit first, huh?" I laugh as she sits down with him, Auggie happily taking the bottle and locking onto my face with his big eyes.
He's a mommy's boy through and through, I don't know what I'd do without my little sidekick all day anymore. He's my guy and I love getting to spend this one on one time with him, especially while he's still little. God knows he's growing every day and before we know it'll he'll be Lilah's age and embarrassed to be seen with his mom. I'm gonna take every second I can get.

Taylor has been persistent about my birthday for the last week, and I love her and I appreciate her caring so much, but it's really not something I wanna make a big deal of.
"Hey," I look up when I hear the voice, smiling sweetly at Antonia as she comes to sit by me. Her style made her seem intimidating at first - everything she wears is so incredible and unique - but as the weeks have passed we've gotten to know each other and she's one of the kindest people I might have ever met - and Taylor Swift is my foster mom so I know kind. "Are you okay? You look different," I frown as I she sits down and I look at her properly, "oh yeah, I slept late and didn't have much time before I had to catch the bus," I nod as I give her a soft smile and she seems nervous about the fact that she's not wearing her outrageously loud alternative front.
"You look cute," her eyes meet mine and I blush as I backtrack, "I mean you look great when you wear your usual stuff, but I meant you don't-" she stops me as she laughs, "I know what you meant, so thank you." I nod, nervously laughing as I look away and refocus on my sketch book in silence. She probably thinks I'm totally weird now.
