"Come on, honey, we need to do your hair," Rosie has been full of energy all morning, so trying to get her to sit still for even a minute has been a fight. "Monkey, behave for mommy," Karlie calls through from Auggie's room and I smirk at the little girl who sighs, "yes, mama." She runs out of her bedroom and into the bathroom, and I offer my hand to her to help her climb onto her little step stool in front of the mirror.
She's still fidgeting around, but she lets me do her hair, so I keep it simple and put it into a French braid.
"Babe, help," I laugh when I hear Karlie's exasperated sigh in the other room, "coming," I call back to her as I tie off Rosie's braid and kiss our girl on her forehead, "go and find Selly and help with Alessia until your grandparents get here." I help her down and she runs off downstairs.
I walk out of the bathroom and into Auggie's room, immediately spotting Karlie on the floor with the toddler running rings around her. "Mr monkey man, what are doing to your mama?" I grab him, making him giggle as I hold him on my hip, kissing his cheeks. "Mama is growing your baby siblings, Augs, you're supposed to be nice to her," I put him in his crib for a second so that I can help Karlie up.
"Come on," I laugh as I take her hands, Karlie huffing as I help her back to her feet. "He knows I'm vulnerable," she pouts and I glance back to our smiling little boy, "he's a baby, Karls, he barely even knows you're pregnant." My hand goes to her bump and I smile, "are you excited?" She just gives me a tired laugh, "amongst many other things that are nowhere near as fun, yeah."
I give her a comforting smile as I cradle her cheek in the palm of my hand, "I love you," I lose myself in her eyes for a second, "and I'm so proud of how strong you've been from day one till now, you're incredible." Karlie has handled this pregnancy so well and I've been in awe of her the whole time, but I know things are that little bit harder at the moment because she's now at the same point she was when she lost Noah.
"I'm scared," she gives me a sad smile and I nod, tucking her hair back behind her ear. "You have every right to be scared, baby, but I promise that nothing is going to happen to these babies. They're safe and healthy and they have their big brother protecting them, so they're going to be just fine." She smiles a little as she nods, tears in her eyes as she thinks about Noah. He's become a much more frequent topic of conversation in our house since she fell pregnant, and that has been hard but also very healing for Kar.
I look back over to August who's just watching us from his crib, "we need to get ready before our families descend," I sigh as she nods, "today we focus on our little ones, no worrying." I nod in agreement, "it's all gonna be okay, and once today is over you'll be able to decorate the nursery to your hearts content."
Karlie has been dying to get started on the nursery for the twins, but we agreed to wait until we know what we're having, and today is the day we get to find out.
"Come on then, monkey, but you have to be nice to mama, okay?" I take Auggie back out of his crib and Karlie kisses his little face as she laughs, Auggie can be quite a handful for her these days and it's not going to get any easier.

Taylor and I weren't sure about doing the whole gender reveal thing for the twins because it doesn't really seem that important to us, but it is important to us to celebrate the babies with our friends and family.
"Where do you want these?" Lilah takes a Tupperware of rice crispy treats out of the refrigerator, "put them on one of your mom's big plates and put them on the table," I give the teen a soft smile as she nods. Taylor went all out baking and cooking for today, so we have more food than anyone will be able to finish today. However, I know she's just trying to feel as involved as she can so I wouldn't dare complain.
