Monster

Rachel's POV
I walk in a dark place. I can't recognize where. Suddenly I hear something. I grab something from the ground ready to attack.

Rachel:Who's there?

But there's no one there. I feel it's breath behind me. I turn around but a hand grabs mine and i drop the thing I was holding.

Rachel:Let me go!

??? :Hey hey hey. Easy. I won't bite.

He let me go.

??? :I see you haven't changed at all. In looks and behavior. You're the same bossy girl I met that day.

I look at the shadow suspicious. Then I realize.

Rachel:Oh my God! You're -

I suddenly open my eyes and sit up. I wrap my legs with my hands and put my head on them. Then I whisper "Who are you?".

It's morning. I'm walking with Newt and he's telling me about the jobs here. There are cooks, builders, runners, slicers, gardeners, med jacks, sloppers, baggers.

Rachel:What do you do?

Newt:I am the second in command. But I'm not just that. I'm also a gardener. Today you become one too.

I nod and I follow him. While we work I ask him.

Rachel:Has anyone got his memory back since he came here?

Newt:No, why?

Rachel:Nothing. I just saw a dream last night. All I could see was darkness and shadows.

Newt:It's usual for the newcomers. For days they see dreams and nightmares. Especially nightmares. But they usually see places. Shadows and voices are rare.

Rachel:Have you tried to remember?

He scoffs

Newt:How are we supposed to do that?

Rachel:I don't know. Leave the place?

Newt:We can't. We've tried everything.

Rachel:What if there is something I can do to help.

Newt:Look, you wanna be helpful?

He throws me a bucket.

Newt:Go get some more fertilizer.

I roll my eyes and walk into the woods. I look around while walking and suddenly I hear something behind me. I turn around and I see some water running. I roll my eyes smiling and sit to drink some water. But before I put my hands in the water I hear something else. I get up and look around. When I look back at the creek I see Ben standing there.

Rachel:Oh hey Ben. You scared me.

I scoff and put my hair behind my ear.

Ben:It's you.

Rachel:What's me?

Ben:It's your fault we are all here.

Rachel:Ben are you ok?

Ben:Now everyone will see the real monster you are.

He takes out a knife and I widen my eyes.

Rachel:Ben, don't.

He runs towards me and I run back to the glade. I hide behind a tree hoping he will lose me but when I turn my head he's standing there. I start running again. I am very fast but he is fast too. He grabs me from my leg and drags me. I try to hold from some roots but I can't. I grab a rock and hit him on the head. He lets me go but he is still trying to catch. I get up and start running. I can see the glade from behind some trees and then I yell.

Rachel:Help! Somebody, help!

Ben knocks me down again and I turn to face him. We are now fighting on the ground. He puts my hands on the ground immobilizing me.

Ben:Now they'll see. You're a monster.

He laughs. He takes the knife and puts it on my chest next to my heart and pushes it a little.

Rachel:Noo!

I let out a scream and some tears. The other boys run towards us. Ben's knife is in my skin. Newt and Frypan grab Ben away from me and I crawl away from him.

Ben:No wait! You have to listen.

The boys make a shield between me and Ben. I press my hand on my wound and when I look at it I notice that there's nothing there. But how? I remember the pain on my chest and some blood dripping from it. I look again at the wound and I see that there's blood there. But who's blood? Ben's or mine?

Alby:He's stung. Put him in the pit.

I look back at the boys who have immobilized Ben on the ground. I stand up.

Rachel:What do you mean?

Thomas:A griever stung him.

Minho:In the middle of the day? Weird.

They take Ben away.

Ben:No! No! Help me. Listen to me! It's not my fault. She did this! 

Newt :How are you?

Rachel:I'm fine. He didn't hurt me.

Thomas :But we heard you screaming

Rachel:I said I'm fine!

I turn around and walk away while I put my bloody fingers in my hair. I get in the room with the hammocks and I lay on mine.

Newt:Hey what happened out there?

Rachel:Nothing. I was walking in the woods and I saw Ben. Then he suddenly attacked me.

Newt:Well now that he's stung we have to excile him.

I sit up

Rachel:Excile him? Where?

Newt:In the maze.
