Chapter 64: So...what's the plan?
----------------------
"Working out first thing in the morning feels better than I thought," Grim admits with a smile as I drink a bottle of water from the vending machine near the Savanaclaw stadium.
"Right, I woke up an hour earlier to go jogging," comments Jack with a proud smile.
"I-I think that might be way too much. So this means Savanaclaw is already getting ready for next year's Inter-Dorm Magift Tournament? You're gonna make a great rival," Grim backs out nervously.
"Ahh, that's right. Y'all don't know about that, do you? There's a tournament that's even bigger every year in May," said Ruggie.
"Ffgna!? There are tournaments bigger than the inter-dorm?" gasps Grim.
"The inter-high tournament," answers Leona. I raise an eyebrow in confusion.
"What's an inter-high tournament?" I ask out of curiosity to learn more about the other colleges.
"As the name says, it's a Magift tournament between different schools," informs Ruggie.
"Our school is pitted against Royal Sword Academy every year," Leona explains further.
"Hoohh, we've heard of that name before!" Grim chimes.
"Twisted Wonderland's got many educational institutions for cultivatin' magicians. Night Raven College and Royal Sword Academy are particularly prestigious. We're basically known as the Big Two," informs Ruggie.
"What kind of school is Royal Sword Academy?" Grim and I questioned in unison.
"A school filled only with pompous flower boys," smirks Leona in a mocking tone.
"Shishishi! Yeah, yeah. From the buildings to the uniforms, it's all glossy. A white uniform is going to show the smallest stain, y'know. I don't care how prestigious it is, but I wouldn't go there even if they begged me," Ruggie nods in agreement.
"But hasn't Night Raven College lost to them in the Inter-High Tournament for the past 100 years?" questioned Jack.
"Guh, th-that's...!" Ruggie flinched before pouting, "It's only been 99 losses! This year makes 100, and we're definitely going to crush them!"
"From what I've seen watching the interscholastics on TV...Royal Sword Academy's roster of players is all individually outstanding, but that's not why they dominate. The real key is their incredible teamwork," adds Jake.
"Hm? Hold on. An inter-high means...Other dorms can play against Royal Sword Academy, not just Savanaclaw?" asks Grim.
"That's right. Tryouts are held, and the team is made of students from any dorm," replies Leona.
"Sounds like personality clashes waiting to happen," I say softly, while Grim nods in agreement beside me.
"Last year, everyone fought over which position they wanted, and it caused a huge scene," Leona said with a sigh.
"That's what I like to hear! You gotta steal the position you want with power! I'm totally gonna get picked to be on the school team!" Grim grins.
"That means you have to train daily to become a starting player and to show off your skill," said Jack with a teasing smile.
"Your chances of being on TV are much higher than the inter-dorm, so it's a great time to show off your abilities!" Ruggie grins playfully.
"How to weed out the competition and get my seat as a starting player? I'll have to start mulling over it now," smirks Leona.
