Chapter 57: Exam frenzy!

That night, in my dreams, I open my eyes to see that the sky was awfully pitch-black, the thunder roaring, and the wind blowing fiercely as I notice, from a bird's-eye view, a ship far in the distance sinking into the ocean.

"Wow, this is some crazy storm..." I mutter before spotting a red-haired mermaid not far from the shipwreck, as she tries her best to support a young man as she swims towards the shore. Once they reach the beach, she places her head over his heart and gasps in relief. "Look, he's still breathing!" she cheers before another man, but noticeably older, runs towards the two, causing the mermaid to swim away.

"Prince Eric!" I hear the older man cry as he spots the young prince on the beach and helps him get back on his feet to leave the beachside. "A girl helped me; she had the most beautiful voice," mutters the prince in a daze before he is led back to land.

Once the prince was gone, I noticed that the mermaid came out from her hiding spot by the nearby boulders and watched the two humans walk further away from the beach. I inch up next to her and hear her say in a love-struck voice, "I wonder why my heart is racing? I know my dream will come true and someday, I'll be part of your world~!"

She sang happily before I saw a pair of odd-eyed eels at the foot, not far from her. However, I saw an incoming wave approaching me before I could get a closer look at the eels. Instinctively, I covered my arms out in front of me to shield the wave from coming, but only had darkness cloud my vision while my body felt heavy as I was sinking into the ocean.

Then a new scene fades into a calm lake by an old willow tree, under the moonlight of the evening sky. I take a few steps to the tree until I notice two figures sitting together on the arched trunk. Once I was close enough to see their faces, I realized it was Tsunotaro and the mysterious friend from before again! Wait...why do I have a memory of both of them?

But the friend's appearance is different from the previous memory; he has a pair of jade blue-green horns with golden tips. On top of his shoulder-length caramel-brown hair, he wore a royal blue robe with silver edges paired with wide-legged pants.

Suddenly, Tsunotaro began to speak to his friend happily about something, but I could only hear bits and pieces of their conversation since my dream seemed to be blocking out their voices for some reason.

However, my eyes were glued to them. Next, Tsunotaro reached into his robe sleeves to pull out a pair of flower pins; one was a white hyacinth while the other was the same purple rose as my very own hair rose pin!

"Here- gift- Takahiro-." I could hear Tsunotaro speak before his friend, Takahiro, took the purple rose from him and pinned it around the left side of his chest. While Tsunotaro did the same with the white hyacinth pin.

My eyes widened in disbelief before placing a hand over my rose clip. No way! This makes sense as to why I'm here in Twisted Wonderland. It's because my hairpin has a connection to all of this somehow! But then, does this mean Takahiro is my relative in some way? More importantly, why did such a precious gift end up with me in the first place!? I huff in frustration as I thought I was getting closer to finding the truth, but only to be faced with more questions.

Soon I could hear Tsunotaro singing a lovely lullaby in his velvety voice.

"A warm cradle, starlight of joy. I will be with you even now, do not fear, even when you wake up from your dreams. Sleep, sleep, my beloved child. And may you walk towards the light that guides you in your dreams...~*."
