UPDATE: EDITED. (07/25/2016) - TEMPORARILY. AUTHORS NOTE AT THE END OF CHAPTER.
The gentle wind chilled my entire body, as I shivered lightly, slowly picking up my head, that gently rested on my right knee. My eye sight was not the best, as everything in my point of view twisted and turned in different directions. It eventually focused enough for me to see where I was; sitting outside in a backyard, with my back leaned up against the noisy house.
"Are you okay?" A gentle, yet drunken slurred voice, bounced against my eardrum.
Turning my head slightly to the left, Rachel took a seat next to me, as she laid her head on my shoulder. I couldn't help myself, as I placed my head gently upon hers, before opening my mouth to respond to her question.
"Do you want the truth or the lie first?" I responded with a slight chuckle, as I blinked a few times to clear the blurriness of my vision.
"Hmm..." She lightly hummed, thinking of a response. "I believe an honest answer would be appropriate at the moment." Rachel spoke softly.
I opened my eyes, as I let out a distressed sigh. "To be honest," I began. "I haven't felt so sick in my life. My head hurts, I can't see straight, the sickening feeling is sitting in the pit of my stomach..." I picked up my head slowly, as I looked down at the drunken Rachel next to me. "I feel horrible." I finished with a light groan, as I ran my fingers gently through my hair.
Rachel lifted her head away from my shoulder, as she stared deeply into my eyes. I couldn't help by stare back into her crystal blue orbs, as a small smile appeared on my face.
"On the other hand," I said, enthused. "I'm glad I'm able to spend it with you."
Rachel smiled from ear to ear, as she wrapped her arms around me, hugging me tightly. Her grip was suffocating, but it gave me a nice, warm feeling, as I wrapped my ears around her, hugging her back.
"I'm glad you are here too. For once, I am able to have a good time without my girlfriends being around to ruin it..." Rachel whispered lightly, as she giggled. "Thank you, Sam. Thank you for giving me a chance to talk to you earlier." She finished, as she buried her head into the crook of my neck.
"Rachel,-" My voice was cut short, as a soft, slow song began to play.
Rachel picked her head up, as she looked back into my green eyes with delight. "Would you like to dance? If not, I understand." She asked. "We could just sit out here and talk some more, if you like." Rachel suggested, as she flashed a small smile.
I shook my head, as I smiled back. "Let's dance before I get sick."
We laughed at my comment, as Rachel and I released our hug, before standing up and heading inside, hand in hand. When we made it back inside, couples danced with each other romantically, best friends drunkenly danced in a circle, and the rest sat around chatting loudly over the music, while drinking their beverages.
Rachel then started to head towards the crowd, dragging me gently behind. We pushes through a few before finding an open spot. Rachel released our hands, as she turned around to face me. Her blue eyes glowed against the dimmed lighting, as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I wrapped my arms gently around her waist in return, as I pulled her closer. We both began to sway back and forth to the beat of the song, not taking our eyes off each other.
My heart beat pounded loudly against my rib cage, as the both of us looked deeply at each other, with smiles planted upon our faces. It felt like everyone around us had suddenly vanished, as we were the only two people left on Earth.
