The sunlight was brighter than usual today, as it radiated enough heat to make me sweat in place. The leaves were different shades of green, as their trunks looked healthier than they did the day prior. As usual, the birds sang their usual tunes, just like they do every morning.
"Come on, Sammy!" A voice called, cheerfully in the distance.
I gazed forward, squinting through the bright rays. A little girl, about 3 feet tall, ran towards me. Her bright blonde hair whipped from side to side, with each stomping step she took. Her brown, almost black orbs grew brightly, the closer she approached my figure. Her outfit consisted of a pink Barbie shirt, with baggy jean capris and a pair of dirty, white tennis shoes with purple laces.
The girl was only a few feet away from me, when she stopped running. She huffed a few breaths, as she hunched forward for a second.
"What's taking you so long?" The girl asked, as she picked up her head to face me properly. "Our parents are at the dock, by the old tire swing! Noah's waiting, too!" She finished, as she took ahold of my hand.
As soon as our hands touched, everything came back to me, as I let out a small gasps.
Payton.
Payton gave me her brightest smile, as she began to run towards the dock. I ran by her side, as I squeezed her hand tightly, not wanting to be left behind.
In the distance, I saw our parents and Noah, standing where Payton said they were waiting. They all flashed us a wide smile, as they waved over towards us.
"We're here! We're here!" Payton shouted with glee, as she stopped in front of our families.
"Good!" My mother called, as her eyes flashed upon my tiny figure. "I thought you'd never show up. What took you so long, Samantha?" She asked, as a small laugh escaped her lips.
I shrugged my shoulders, as I kicked the dirt around with my right foot. "I'm sorry, mama. I couldn't pick which shirt I wanted to wear." I told.
Noah cocked his head to he left, as he stared at me for a moment. "So, you decided to wear one of my shirts?" He asked, as he pointed at me.
I hummed in confusion, before placing my eyes upon my attire. My outfit consisted of a pair of light blue, jean shorts, my black tennis shoes, with green shoe laces, and Noah's black t shirt, with a white skateboard on the front.
I slowly looked up at my brother, as I felt my face heat up. "I'm sorry. I just really like your shirts!" I admitted, as a large smile crept upon my face.
Noah stood there for a moment, before the corners of his mouth twitched upwards into a smile. "You don't have to be sorry, Sam!" He told, as he walked over to me. "I think my shirts suit you more than they suit me!"
The both of us laughed, as he embraced me into a huge.
Everything's coming back to me now. Everything... all of this... is all just a memory. This was the last time I stayed at this campsite, generally happy. However, I have a bad feeling about something, but I can't put my finger around it.
