December 21st...
My bedroom was silent during the early morning of Wednesday, as I laid in bed, slowly awakening from my previous nights rest. My eyes were still pressed together, as I knew God had granted me another day to live.
The soft mattress beneath me felt like a big, fluffy cloud, as I sunk deeper into the charcoal colored sheets. The thick, heavy, royal blue duvet laid gently on top of me, as my body heat stayed underneath it, keeping me warm throughout the time being. My head rested upon two, feathered pillows, as I slowly pushed the right side of my face into it, falling into a more comfortable position.
I slowly unfolded my eyelids, taking in the morning light that shined through my window near my bed. I blinked a few times, before rolling over to my left. The rest of my bedroom appeared into slight, as my vision slowly began to settle.
I dragged my arm out from underneath the warm blanket, as I reached for my phone, that sat silently on the table. As soon as I pressed the power button, my phone came to life, as the brightness from the screen blinded me for a moment. I focused at the time and date, as a small smile appeared on my face.
'Wednesday, December 21st; 10:42 A.M.'
Today's the day!
School was closed for Christmas break, which gave me lots of extra sleep to catch up on while I stayed up real late doing my own things during the night. However, today isn't just the third day of break; it's also my birthday. I'm officially 17 years old.
I let out a groggy chuckle, as text messages and notifications from Facebook came in, as friends and family wished me a happy birthday. I placed my phone back on the table next to my bed, as I rolled back over towards the window. I closed my eyes, wanting to get some more sleep, when something erupted through my eardrums. The sound of multiple footsteps frantically running up the stairs, and down the hall. The sound grew louder, as whoever it was approached my bedroom door. The footsteps ceased from the other side, as it was replaced with small giggles and someone saying shh.
Within seconds, my bedroom door flew open, as the metal door knob slammed against the wall with force. The footsteps processed forward, as they approached my bed. The footsteps stopped, as I felt the bed dip down and immediate pressure erupted throughout my entire body.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Three female voice shouted enthusiastically from above.
A groan escaped my lips, as I shoved my head underneath my pillow. I suddenly felt someone rip my pillow up, exposing my untamed hair and nasty morning face. I let out a small sigh, as I unfolded my eyelids once again, looking up at the culprits. My vision fixed on a brown hair, emerald orb girl; Rachel. She sat on top of me, giggling, as she held onto my pillow that was once covering my head.
"Good morning, sleepy head!" Rachel cooed, as she began to run her fingers through my messy hair.
I relaxed underneath her touch, as a small smile appeared across my face. "Morning, baby." I spoke softly, as I blinked the tired look away from my eyes.
Rachel eventually got off of me, as I was able to sit up to stretch. As I sat up straight, my eyes found their way towards the rest of the culprits; Bethany, Brianna, Hayden, Noah and my parents, who stood in the doorway to watch the event unfold. Everyone had a wide smile planted upon their faces, as I made eye contact with each of them.
"Happy Birthday!" Everyone said in unison once again.
I chuckled, as I shook the sleep away from my head. "Thank you." I replied, as I began to get out of bed.
I paused, as I lifted up the covers. I began to eye my current outfit; a white shirt and red checkered boxers. I decided against getting out of bed, as I dropped the covers over my lap.
