After we were told about the marriage plans, I just stared at my food, gradually cutting the meat, separating the veggies and plainly looking at the style of the plate.
I could not eat, it was a sudden news, I'm just fifteen, sixteen a week from now, what do I know about creating a family?! Napatingin ako kay Jus, he smiled at me, as an assurance, maybe?
"Since you grew up as best friends," Tita started. "What about you both start dating first?"
"That would be a great idea," mom agreed, she then looked at me. "Right, baby?"
I smiled, it was faked, thoughts run inside me, what am I gonna do? Just follow them? My brothers sympathized with me by tapping my shoulder.
"Right, and since they're just minors, how about marriage after Trix turned eighteen?" Tita suggested.
"I guess so," mom uttered. "From now, let's just let them date."
"No more playing around," Tita warned Justine. My best friend took glances of me.
Their talk lasted for hours, even when desserts were served, I just played with it, wala naman akong choice. It felt like they have planned this all along. Even our fathers agreed like it was the perfect charades, but, it's my life, how come no one asked me?
Ilang oras na naglalaro sa isipin ko yung mga sinasabi nila, my brain can't even process the situation that they put me into. Naunang lumabas ng bahay yung mga kamag-anak niya, then followed by his siblings and lastly by his parents.
"I'll call you," Justine mouthed before he rode in their van.
"Hey," Kuya Tanner hugged me tightly, he's the first born. "Do you want to protest?"
I shook my head. "It's not like it will change their mind."
Kuya Tyler then hugged me after my eldest brother released me. "Baby, we can. It's your life. It's your future."
After they sat me down for a talk, I went to my room. I called Justine after my night routine, he answered after five missed calls.
"What took so long to answer!" I shouted.
"I took a bath," I heard his deep breathing.
"Dito ka lang naman galing naligo ka pa ulit," may inis na sa tono ng boses ko. "So, what now?" humiga ako at niyakap yung teddy bear na regalo niya noong nakaraang birthday ko.
"Tell me."
"This is crazy," I uttered. "We're too young to marry!"
"It's not tomorrow, years from now they said it, right?"
"Still, why they even think of that!? That's absurd! How come no one asked me? Anong alam ko sa pag-aasawa? I'm just fifteen!"
Another sigh from the other line. "It will happen in two years, hindi naman bukas."
"Kahit na! Eighteen lang tayo nun, anong alam natin sa ganyan! And why you're so calm when I'm panicking!?"
"Well, at least I won't marry a stranger."
I scoffed. "Wow! So, you're just going to marry me because of familiarity? What an ass!"
He chuckled. "It's not a bad thing, I have known you my whole life, I'd rather spend the rest with you than a random girl they pick somewhere."
