A few months has passed and Ethan was up and walking.
It had been a struggle but he said by their baby shower he wanted to be able to dance and enjoy life with Lala. Really she had been his reason for smiling. He didn't have much that made him happy but her lately.
He woke up and had missed his own 18th birthday.
While he was a working on getting back mobile he found out that after his family was killed Lala packed up their entire apartment and with the help of her family and friends and they moved everything into his grandmothers garage. It wasn't until after he was discharged from the hospital they spent most days going through stuff and tossing out what he could bare.
Lala had really been the strongest woman he met besides his grandmother and Faye he told his self he was going to propose to her at their baby shower. His grandmother gave her his ring the week before she passed. Patricia told him how proud she was he was going to be a good man and great father. His grandmother had been right all these years and figured nothing had changed. She got sick with cancer and wasn't given much time but with the time she had she got all her affairs in order. When she passed she left him her house and all its contents. Patricia had lived in her home for over 40 years and as Ethan looked around it felt surreal that everyone close to him was gone. That was except for Lala, their upcoming daughter and maybe a cousin or two.
Ethan couldn't wait to meet their daughter and even more so to celebrate her arrival because right now both he and Lala were looking forward to it.
Today was his grand mothers funeral and he hadn't heard from Lala all day. He thought it was weird especially today out of all days.
He tried to call her for the fifth time and got no answer.
It was unusual but he told his self right after service he would go get changed and head to her house.
He walked in with his cane to an empty home.
He let out a deep sigh and told his self it would be okay as soon as he saw Lala. The way she loved him it healed him. He remembered last night he told her she didn't have to come because she had enough of funerals. On top of his mother's and sisters she recently lost a cousin. He knew she deserved a break they all did. It was just her not answering made he uneasy as he tried not to worry.
Ethan made his way upstairs and got changed before he left out.
He headed to Lala's.
It wasn't a long drive before He pulled up and noticed her street was blocked off.
He decided to head to the end of the block and park so he could walk up.
He got out and noticed all the whispers and stares as he walked.
He figured it was his cane most people were off put by a young man his size walking with a cane.
Ethan proceeded only to realize the police and ambulance were in front of Lala's house.
Faye his cousin walked up stopping him or doing her best to stop him.
"E I need to talk to you first." She said with tears on her face. He immediately knew something was wrong.
"Faye naw." He said walking past her as she tried to grab him.
He pushed her out the way as she gave up. She honestly didn't know if she had the heart to. Not when she knew he had been through so much.
He tried to get closer as the police stopped him from getting near the house.
"That's my girl and my baby. What's goin on?" He asked really unsure if he wanted to know.
