"I'm sorry Reign due to the affiliation and everything we're going to have to let you go." Lauren said with a smile.

Reign felt sick.

Her small 5'4 stature shrunk into the chair.

It had only been a few days since their bank had been robbed and her life seemed to be crumbling to pieces.

"I-I had nothing to do with that. That's an ex. He didn't know I worked here. I damn sure didn't know it was him behind the mask. I- I haven't talked to him in nearly 3 months." She said looking at Phillip.

"We know, we believe you. The police did confirm that and we get that but as a bank, it doesn't make us look good." He said in his fake customer service tone and she looked at him.

"You can't do that." Reign said in disbelief and betrayal before Lauren leaned forward.

"Please, I need this job. I literally graduate in a few months." Reign tried to reason.

"We have a small severance package." Lauren ignored her pleas and Phillip pushed the folder directly in front of her.

"You don't want to make this a thing." He said and Reign scoffed.

She wanted to make a scene, she wanted to find a way out of this but she didn't have one.

She sat in silence for a moment before she cleared her throat.

"Fine." Reign instead signed her paperwork, took her severance, and walked out of the bank with her head high.

She didn't let a tear fall even though she wanted to curl up and fall to the ground.

Reign's brown skin was glowing. Her natural face was flawless. Even her natural hair was growing. She had always been a pretty face but she wanted to be more than that she wanted to be the smart girl in the room. She was high school valedictorian and soon to be a college graduate. What she didn't get was how no matter how hard she tried her past haunted her.

As she walked away everyone watched as she walked out. as if it hadn't been awkward enough.

She spent the last few days not only being interrogated but ostracized by her company.

Reign climbed into her car and pulled off.

She had only made it down the block before she hit a red light.

Reign couldn't even contain her tears as they started to fall.

The last thing she would have ever imagined was her crying at a red light after losing her job for something she had nothing to do with.

"Angel knew how to fuck me over one way or another." She said and she started to feel like her mother was right.

Reign started to pull off as the horns behind her started to blare.

"I'm fuckin moving." She said rolling down her window as she pressed on the gas.

That didn't stop those behind her from honking.

Reign sped up, turned on her blinker, and started to switch lanes.

The moment she switched lanes an oncoming speeding car smashed into her from the rear.
