𝕻𝖍𝖔𝖊𝖓𝖎𝖝 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝕻𝖍𝖔𝖊𝖇𝖊 never left their Mother's side for more than a few moments at a time. Arcturus spent most of the time locked up in his room. The only human contact he made was when Mariam would try and coerce the newly crowed king out of his room.

Mariam, as Phoebe's lady in waiting, and the only sane person in the castle, tasked Edmund with trying to get the girls away from their sick mother. It was a tougher job than he originally thought.

Phoebe practically clung to her Mothers hand day in and out and Phoenix wasn't much better. She sat by her Mother's side as days bled into weeks. Bellatrix's health declined rapidly and other days it increased. All the best healers across Narnia and Perpetua Aurmeun came to inspect the sickly queen and none could come up with any sort of logical conclusion.

Edmund paced around in Phoenix's old room, Mariam had let him sleep in there considering Phoenix was occupied by her Mother. Her ceiling was covered with the entirety of fading and chipping paint from the lack of attention it received. The stars above him provided no comfort as he just received the most conflicting letter.

Susan and Peter both requested for their brother to return to Narnia. His political duties called and it seemed to be of the utmost importance, hence why they had sent the letter through a raven instead of the usual mail service.

Edmund had tossed the letter over his shoulder. He knew he couldn't leave his wife like this with her dying Mother. He and Mariam talked with the final healer and he had told them their was a slim chance of her recovery. Both made a pact not to inform the Zyanya sisters or the Teller boy of this information.

Narnia also called him back to his ranks as Edmund the Just. His siblings gave few details, but from what he had received from it, it was about a trial he had been working on before he left abruptly. He was king and the other kingdoms would look down onto Narnia because it seemed as if he didn't care about his duties as king at all.

But then again, there was his grieving wife. He couldn't just leave her here. Bellatrix was dying. A woman who took care of him throughout his time spent in Narnia. Many times when being a king was too much for him, Bellatrix would sooth him and remind him just who he was. The woman was sometimes his guardian angel and now she was sick and slipping away.

Death was a funny thing, always playing tricks. It crept up on you when you least except it to. Edmund could test to that. He still remembered the feeling of himself leaving his body. His mind becoming blank and memories flashing throughout it. He felt he was reliving everything again.

Was that how death was for everyone?

Shaking the dark thought out of his head, he bounded towards the door. He only came up to the room when it was deemed absolutely fit to. Phoenix's room was located in the tallest tower and the amount of stairs he had to climb was unimaginable. Now he knew how the Zyanya sisters managed to be so fit all these years. Because there are so many bloody stairs in the castle.
