Birds chirped and kids laughed in the street as the sun beat down on everyone. The area was happy, homely and content. 8 year old Alina jumped down from a tree, holding two small pebbles that looked to be coloured blue in the light, black if it wasn't.
Her head perked up at a long whistled note and both she and her sister, Yelena, returned the end of the note as she skipped through the trees and out to the small swing set where Yelena and Natasha were.
Alina smiled as Yelena did a back bend, both her and Natasha doing the same as the three sisters glanced between one another, happy in their home. Yelena giggled, the siblings using their hands and feet to keep themselves up.
"We're all upside down." Yelena laughed gleefully.
"And I bet you're both gonna fall down first." Natasha grinned.
"No chance, you two will." Alina smiled, long red hair reaching the floor.
"No, you both will." Yelena shot back. "You can't hold it much longer."
Natasha made a funny noise and Yelena fell to the floor with a small grunt, still happy while Alina turned to Natasha who did the same, both still in a bridge. Alina started to make farting noises with her mouth and bicep and Natasha sniggered, loosing her balance and falling. Alina grinned and stood up.
"Told you you'd both fall first." She said to them and Yelena started to chase her with Natasha. "I told you! I told you! Told you so!"
A branch snapped and Yelena called for their mother as she fell and bumped her knee. Both Natasha and Alina turned back to her, small frowns on their faces. The pair pulled Yelena closer as she sobbed, Melina running over to her injured daughter.
"What happened?" She asked softly and Yelena shoved herself into Melina.
"She fell on her knee." Natasha answered.
"Oh, you bumped your knee?" Melina cooed and Yelena hummed. "Oh..."
Natasha took Alina's hand and pulled her to the play set, Alina complying and seating herself on a swing while Natasha climbed up the steps.
"Kiss it better. There we go." Melina shushed her softly, wiping away Yelena's tears. "Oh, come on, little one. Get up. You're okay. Come on. You're a brave girl. Your pain only makes you stronger. Right, you pair?"
"Yeah." Alina and Natasha smiled, both now on the swing set as Melina and Yelena walked over, hand in hand.
"Yeah?"
"Look!" Yelena exclaimed. "Forest stars."
"Yeah. You know what?" Melina started as they looked at the fireflies. "Those are actually part of the Lampyridae family. And the glow, the glow that you see, that comes from a chemical reaction called bioluminescence. Come on, time for dinner."
