Brett's Song- Rivers Deep - Gabby Barrett

                                                                                         ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

                 "Meeting Dr. Bonesetter."

                                                                                  ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

"What the hell?" I mumbled groggily as I finally woke up. I looked frantically around me, seeing a bland white room, with a single chair. The loud beeping of the heart rate monitor made me stop and calm down as the memories of the last couple hours washed over me.

Meeting Gabriel, North, and my collision with the bench, the ride to the hospital, and finally those emerald -green eyes that I couldn't seem to get out of my mind.

"Why do I always end up fucking injured?" I complained exasperated and I gently lowered myself down against the scratchy hospital pillows. "I guess you're just accident-prone Pumpkin," spoke an amused voice from the doorway of the hospital room. My head shot up and winced as pain shot across my forehead. "Where the fuck did you come from!?" I screeched as I pulled the itchy hospital blankets up to my chest. "From the hallway Pumpkin," He laughed as he drew closer to the bed I resided on, "I heard the monitors going crazy and decided to see what was going on, you're my patient after all." He grinned and I grew slacked jawed as I took to time to study his appearance as he pulled a swivel chair up next to my bed and instantly the scents of citrus, ginger, and cedar surrounded us as he gently started unwinding the bandages around my forehead. The doctor was cheerful to say the least, had shortly cropped darker hair, and a jawline that could cut steel. Holy fuck, how come all the hot guys are in Charleston? I'll have to come up more often.

"Your forehead is healing nicely; you gave Gabe and I quite a scare. But thankfully your ankle is set back into place and is in a cast," He explained as he gently placed a clean large bandage over the stiches. "So, Doctor Bonesetter, when can I go home?" I smiled innocently up at him, looking into his eyes. His dazzling green eyes captivated me; his beautiful eyes had a ring of hazel closer to the pupil. Dr. Bonesetter slowly smiled, "Huh, never heard that one before," He laughed happily as he stood up and checked on my ankle. "Well- It was a clean break, so I think that ankle of yours will have to be in the cast for at least six weeks." He spoke as he strutted over to the sink in the corner and washed his hands. "Okay. Uh- will I have to use crutches?" I asked the handsome doctor, as dread creeped slowly up my face.

"I'm afraid so Pumpkin." He answered. "Fuck." I groaned, "I'll look pathetic walking into school on crutches!" I winced as I moved around, trying to sit up. Now, I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to explain this all to Gramps, he'll murder me. Hopefully I can get out of this hospital undetected.

"I'm ready to bust out of here doc!" I smiled brightly, trying to conceal my dread. "Just call me Sean, and before you can leave, a parent or guardian will have to sign you out."

Mother of God.

"Okay." I sighed as Dr. Sean handed me a set of crutches and gently helped me up. I turned my face away from the hot doctor before he could see my insanely flushed cheeks, as I situated myself on the stupid crutches. "Better?" He asked softly as his large warm hand gently slid away from my waist, leaving tinges in his wake. I looked up into his eyes and nodded mutely as we held eye contact for a few seconds more before his eyes shot down to my lips. Abruptly Dr. Sean cleared his throat before stepping away. "Well, Gabe has commanded to see you. He's been waiting for you to wake up!" He grinned as he held open the door for me, and my cheeks burned brightly, and I eternally cursed my fair skin.

Dr. Sean and I walked down the long hallway of the hospital corridor, I slyly snuck at peek up at Dr. Sean as he walks slowly beside me. "Dr. Sean-Uh, my phone is in my bag. I was supposed to meet my gramps at the diner at three. He's probably worried." I told him thoughtfully as he looked down at me. "Gabe's got your bag, Pumpkin. Then you can call your grandfather." He soothed as he patted my back. I smiled gratefully up at him as we drew closer to a door, the waiting room door I was guessing.

"Oh, and before I forget- North is with Gabe. He feels horrible about hurting you." He said sadly and I shood my head, "He shouldn't! It was an accident, could've happened to anyone." I argued softly as I limped into the waiting room.

"Sparky!" A deep male voice cheered happily, "I've been so fucking worried about you! How are you feeling?" Gabriel asked concerned as he gently took my face in his hands, and I blushed brightly and was suddenly glad the coolness of the silver and gold rings on his hands soothed the heat. "I'm fine Gabriel, honestly." I reassured softly smiling up at him, "Can I have my bag? My Gramps will be worried; I was supposed to meet him for lunch." I explained wincing at the thought of Gramps wrath. Gabriel nodded and went off to get my bag as I took a seat and rested my leg for a while. A throat cleared mere feet away from me and my head swiveled around and gaped.

Sweet Baby Jesus! I think I just stepped into heaven, and I didn't realize until now. Where in the fuck do these men come from? Hell, I'd like to know! "Uh-Hi?" I asked unsurely as I stared at the man standing beside Dr. Sean. From first glance, I would describe this man as absolutely perfect, but when you looked deeper into his eyes, you could definitely tell he had skeletons in his closet. The man had smooth pale skin, unblemished, had soft brown hair that was cropped short, and brush away from his face, that I had the urge to run my hands through. And behind black rimmed glasses were the most captivating steel-gray eyes I've ever seen, along with an angular bone structure, he looked like a model dressed stiffly in a charcoal grey suit, perfectly wrinkle free. "Miss. Brett." The mystery man nodded as he drew closer to me and held out a perfectly smooth hand and I hesitantly shook it.

"I'm Mr. Blackbourne. Pleasure." He introduced. "Nice to meet you." I smiled brightly as Gabriel came back with my bag. "Brett-" North started before being cut off by the door slamming open and a figure rushing through.

"Sean! I need--" Gramps spoke before cutting himself off as he saw my figure sitting in the chair. "Brett! What happened!? I've been looking everywhere for you!" Gramps said rushing forwards to kneel next to me. "Gramps--I'm fine. Just an accident!" I rushed, trying my best to calm to raging man. The three men behind Gramps had insanely shocked expressions, except for Mr. Blackbourne, but I could see the hint of surprise in his eyes. But the man did hide it well. "What the hell happened!? Sean?" Gramps asked turning slowly to look behind him at a Sean, who held an amount of fear on his face at the rage he felt coming in waves from Gramps. I smiled in sympathy at Sean as he glanced quickly to me, and I shrugged my shoulder.

"Just an accident with a bench. It's all good, I promise. Sean fixed me up!" I cut in, trying to get Gramps' attention off of the men in front of me. Gramps looked at me, then to my forehead, then to my leg. I knew he was going to blow up, so I quickly grabbed his attention, "Hey Gramps? I'm not feeling to well...Can you take me home?" I asked quietly, trying to play the sympathy card. The faster we were away from the hospital, the better.

"Yes, little doll. Let's get you home." Gramps said quickly standing up, before helping me up himself. I hobbled on my crutches pathetically as I went in the direction of the doors. Gramps followed beside me, and before exiting the hospital doors, Gramps turned,

"By the time I get back, You boys better have an explanation." Gramps said lowly and helped me away. The last thing I heard before I left was Mr. Blackbourne sharply saying,

"Five hours North."

"Shit."
