I could see Kate standing across from me, an emotionless expression across her face. We were in the warehouse again. The warehouse Eleanor had brought me in. I tried to sprint over to her but a invisible barrier separating the two of us.
I screamed seeing Eleanor approach Kate from behind. I banged on the invisible barrier desperately trying to save Kate. Kate spun around to see Eleanor and began to cry out in pain.
"No no stop!" I screamed out slamming my hands against the invisible wall.
Tears streamed down my face as my body shaked. I could hear Kate begging Eleanor to stop, begging her own mother not to hurt her but Eleanor didn't stop. She held the gun up and Kate dropped to her knees letting out a blood curdling scream as the gun fired.
-
I gasped my eyes flying open as I launched forward to sit up. My heart was racing, my chest was pounding as I tried to breath. My breathing was fast and I struggled to get oxygen in.
Kate wrapped her arms around me.
"Y/n, Y/n just breathe, you're ok I'm here. It's ok love" Kate said panicked.
After a few seconds I managed to calm down my breathing managed to return back to normal. I let out a choked sob, Kate moved to straddle my waist keeping her arms around my body. I sobbed into her shoulder as she held me.
"Was it the dream again?" Kate asked quietly.
"It- it was different this time" I sniffled.
I'd had been nearly a month since the incident and I had arrived home being discharged a week ago. Kate had taken time off college opting for online and we headed back to the Barton farm for a while.
"You don't have to tell me about it but just know I'm here" Kate whispered placing soft kisses on my cheek.
I had been getting nightmares nearly every night since it happened, most of them being flashbacks to me being tortured or some with Kate watching me or even her being hurt herself but this was different. Different and much more intense.
"Y-you were shot and- and I watched it happen but I couldn't, I couldn't do anything to stop it there was this invisible wall and I couldn't save you" I managed to stutter out.
Kate lifted up my face so I could look at her and despite it being dark I could see her saddened expression.
"I'm not going anywhere Y/n, I'm here" Kate assured me.
I nodded pulling her into me and burying me face into her shoulder, Kate let out a small sigh and wrapped her legs around my waist holding me close to her. Her arms moving up and down my back to soothe me.
"You're going to be ok" Kate whispered.
It wasn't me I was worried about.
"I love you so much" I whispered.
"I love you too" Kate replied.
We lay back down and I rested my head on Kate's chest as she held me close.
"You sure you don't want to tell Clint about these nightmares, he's had them too Y/n he could help" Kate suggested.
"No! I'm not talking to him about this I'm fine" I snapped.
"Y/n this doesn't make you any less of a person it's ok to struggle" Kate said.
I shook my head pulling away from her and wrapping my arms around my own body flipping over to face the wall.
"Y/n I'm just doing this because I care" Kate said running her hand up and down my arm.
"We'll you can stop because I'm fine" I replied harshly.
She sighed and I could feel the bed shift under her weight as she sat up.
"I'll always care and worry about you Y/n. No matter what is going on in our lives, whether your struggling or fine I'm always going to try and help you. I just hate to see you hurting" Kate said.
I sighed feeling slightly bad and rolling over to face her.
"I just don't want to talk to my dad ok, he'll tell my mum and then they'll both tread around me they're walking on eggshells" I sighed.
"Ok then you don't have to but you have to talk to someone I don't want you bottling this all up and lying me telling me you're ok" Kate said.
"What? Like you do" I said.
Kate was stunned and stayed silent.
"You pretend that you're ok and that all you want to do is to help me but when are you going to admit that what you saw effected you too" I said.
Kate sighed lowering her head to stare at her lap.
"It's because I didn't want to add anything onto your plate and you're just dealing with so much I didn't want to burden you with my issues" Kate admitted sheepishly.
"Hey love you are never a burden to me, you are the most important to me" I whispered.
I reached over picking up Kate's hands placing kisses on the backs of her hands.
"I guess we've both been bottling stuff up huh" Kate chuckled lightly.
I nodded and she lay back down allowing me to cuddle into her.
"How about we promise to be more open" I suggested.
"Deal" Kate whispered placing a kiss on my head.
I smiled nuzzling my head into her chest she smiled running her hand over my cheek her finger brushing against my dried tears.
"Now try to get some rest babe, I'll be here ok for any nightmares or if you just need anything at all I'm here Y/n" Kate said.
"I know and the same goes for you" I replied.
"I love you" Kate said.
"I love you too Kate" I said placing a kiss on her chest making her heart flutter.
